Has anyone tried this new stuff?

i'm going on a trip to S. Carolina in 2 weeks (yay!!!) and didn't want to look freakishly lobster-burned within 15 minutes of my being there. However, someone i know recently had a pretty bad time with skin cancer, and i refuse to go tanning the traditional way.

i haven't heard much about the spray-on tan stuff that you get done at the salon, but i decided to go ahead and give it a try. It was very cold getting it sprayed, and i felt kind of like a turky getting basted for Thanksgiving dinner, and it smelled rather like a mixture of rubber and dirty sweatsocks! Not to mention the fact that i slipped on my way out and fell on my bare butt! Yet, as i stepped out of the booth, i already had the glistening look of a wannabe surfer girl.

i wiped it off per the salesguy's instructions (who somewhat resembled a high-strung surfer-dude wannabe, himself, but was very nice and patient with my ignorance!) and went on my merry way. It's supposed to take 5-6 hours to get the full effect, so i'm in the waiting period.

Has anyone tried this before? What was your experience like, and how well did it work? All thoughts are welcome! Thanks, asylem_supastar

Date: 4/29/2005 2:16:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63042    Yeah, Rika, i have a feeling that i'm going to agree with you real soon. Just looking down at my hands makes me feel uneasy about this tan thing.
Date: 4/29/2005 2:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 61811    good luck with it! FYIearing sunless tanner wont protect you from getting burned...at all. So make sure to wear your SPF50! ^_~ I've never gotten a spray on tan thing, but usually they turn out pretty good.
Date: 4/29/2005 6:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 36538    On Tuesday, I had a spray on tan sprayed on. Wanted to try it out before I had it done for a wedding that I'm in. It looked really good at first. The person at the salon who put mine on said that it was supposed to last eight to ten days. It's only been like three days and it's started to fade from my face which sucks. Hope yours turns out better though.
Date: 4/29/2005 6:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 33573    My mom mentioned for me to do this instead of a tanning bed that I want to start going to soon, but I won't go to a spray-tan. A lot of people have gone to it for prom last year and a couple this year, and they end up blotchy. I remember last year one girl ended up orange and looked bad ... So I don't trust them but it always depends Good luck with it
Date: 4/29/2005 8:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 8555    I tried it once before a wedding, but I had also sat in the sun that whole day too, not seeing that I had a burn from the sun yet, I went into the spray booth....I ended up looking so funny!
Date: 4/29/2005 11:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 36766    This reminds me of the episode of Friends, when Ross went into the booth & kept gettin' sprayed in the face because he didn't know what he was doing. Good episode. Anyways, I think my gramma tried that tanning thing before, & she seemed to like it.
Date: 4/30/2005 7:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 25756    I've never tried it, but it seems cool. Much better than getting skin cancer.
Date: 4/30/2005 8:38:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63042    Well, it's day two, and it seems to have worked ok. The color is real good, not orange-looking or unnatural. There are a few places where it's streaked a little, but i think it will even out after a shower. My face looks good, surprisingly. It's just so strange, because i'm so used to seeing my skin pale and porcelain-looking, and this works instantaneously (meaning it gives you the look of several tanning sessions in one application) so i didn't have time to get used to it over time! It's a big difference on me, because my skin was so light, but it's exactly the effect that i wanted-just a little color, not a i'm-the-fake-n-bake-queen-of-the-world effect. And, like Agent Q said, better than skin cancer! -asylem_supastar
