City law: Walk your dog 3 times a day -- or be fined ~Super Princess~

ROME, Italy (Reuters) -- Dog owners in Turin will be fined up to $650 if they don't walk their pets at least three times a day, under a new law from the city's council.

People will also be banned from dyeing their pets' fur or "any form of animal mutilation" for merely aesthetic motives such as docking dogs' tails, under the law about to be passed in the northern Italian city.

"In Turin it will be illegal to turn one's dog into a ridiculous fluffy toy," the city's La Stampa daily reported.

Italians can already be fined up to 10,000 euros and spend a year in prison if found guilty of torturing or abandoning their pets, but Turin's new rules go into much greater detail.

Dogs may be led for walks by people on bicycles, the rules say, "but not in a way that would tire the animal too much."

Date: 4/25/2005 7:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 11341    How are they going to know if the dogs are walked 3 times a day? I think dying a dogs fur is silly but if it doesnt hurt the animal whats the big deal?
Date: 4/25/2005 7:58:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 42515    good thing this isn't a law in New York. My dog has an issue walking from the front door to the corner...haha.

Date: 4/25/2005 9:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 13636    and here i was going to tie my dogs leash to the rearview mirror. *snaps fingers* darn. but that is the best quote about a "ridiculous fluffy toy".... does that include dressing them up in lame sweaters?

Date: 4/25/2005 9:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 63042    Lol...yeah, DMK, what are they going to do, set cops up to moniter every person's house that owns a dog to make sure it gets walked 3 times? i kind of agree with the one about the animal modification, however, i always felt so bad for the puupies that have to get their ears cropped and tails docked to fit a show standard-even if they're not going to be in dog shows! -asylem_supastar

Date: 4/25/2005 9:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 61897    I agree with DMK, I think it would be cool to own a pink or purple poodle
Date: 4/25/2005 10:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 62136    lmbo! wow, what are they gonna come up with next? City Council going to regulate what kind of food the dogs eat and elect one as their mayor or something? sheesh. It would probably be one of those things where if a neighbor hates another, he/she's got something to hold over another. Sounds like a money making scheme to me. Good ol government
Date: 4/25/2005 12:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 36901    I think people should walk their dogs at least 3 times a day. I know people who leave their dogs inside all day while they work then ignore them the rest of the evening after they get home. I don't see how they can actually enforce this though. I also think it's horrible to dye a dog's fur. I've been told that it doesn't hurt them, but I think it's cruel...it can't be much fun for them. Just my opinion...what do I know? lol
