Crawling Out Of My Grave (a poem about recovering from Rape) By CaitieAnjel

My nails are filled with dirt
My arms ache from the strain
My eyes droop with exhaustion
My hair drips from the rain

But I've a brilliant smile on my face
A sense of self-worth fills my soul
Now I'm the one with my pride in tact
Now I'm the one who's in control

I was tossed like a rag doll
Into the pits of hell
But now my feet touch the ground
And I've thrown away that shell

Now I'm the one with my head held high
My voice reaches the heights of Heaven
I'm through with the fears, the crying, the reoccuring dreams
I've crawled out of the grave of depression

You took 7 months of my could've-been life
I let you take it without putting up a fight
Now you're the one who's left with the blame
And I'm the one who's living life right

*By CaitieAnjel (inspired by the promptings of my best friend, Keir)

*For those of you who don't know me, let me fill you in on my background. Last July I was raped by an ex-boyfriend-turned-friend. The past few months I've been an emotional wreck, understandably so. But recently I've picked myself up, gotten a job, started a great relationship, worked on graduating high school, and started working on accomplishing my dreams. (taking voice lessons, auditioning for plays, and I am now participating in a opera with a prestigious company in Utah) I just feel really good and after months and months of writing depressing poetry, I finally was convinced I needed to break the habit and write something that was good and uplifting. I hope you enjoyed it. PLEASE let me know what you think. =D *hugs* *hugs* and more *hugs*
