Man this makes me so mad....Predictor

I went into Burger King today just to say hi to a couple friends there. Well I got a big surprise. The Assistant manager was accusing a person of lying when they called in sick the other day. Normally, I wouldn.t get involved, but this person was a friend of mine. They were sick, and had to go outof town to his mother's to get money to get some medicine to help him just to sleep.

He even went in sick today, and the gall if the Assistant didn't say he was lying about being sick. He even had the other employees believing it. I was appalled at the treatment my friend was getting, and to make it worse this assistant does this all the time and never does any work. He just sits on his butt all the time and tells people what to do, while he even go out and smoke about every half hour.

I would have walked out and never came back with that kind of treatment, which is what my friend did. He said for 6.50 an hour this treatment is not tolerable. I, myself do not blame him one bit. To treat an employyee like that is aporable by any standards.

What do you think??

Date: 3/22/2005 7:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 3263    I don't blame him either!! When upper management doesn't respect you, why respect them? It makes for a bad work environment.
Date: 3/22/2005 7:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 11348    I agree with you. I have noticed many Manager types, usually assistants of some sort, that get on these power trips and treat everyone badly. Why aren't these people fired or demoted? At the hotel I used to work at, we had a sales manager like that. And I swear, every single new person they hired quit because of him. I knew how to handle him and ignore him, but no one else did and they were losing employees left and right, all because they had a bad sales manager who could easily have been replaced.
Date: 3/22/2005 7:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 62998    yes its funny how people get so funky about money isn't Predictor. Hate to be called liers, unless it's true. Oh, BTW how is that new job? - Typo Demon
Date: 3/22/2005 7:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 4231    Well..seeing as how I am currently a manager at Mc Donalds...that is just rediculous. It really is. We are taught to take their word for it in good confidence. However if it becomes a trend THEN we do tend to ask questions. NEVER accuse.
Date: 3/22/2005 7:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 58078    Well I think like you've stated in pass posts about finding work in your area and not being able to that, I would suck it up and deal with it but look for something on the side. If you are having trouble he will as well. $6.50 is better then nothing. Noone deserves to be treated like poop at a job but ya never quit without another job lined up unless of course you don't need the money.
Date: 3/22/2005 7:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 24924    Seems you can't win, eh Pre? I mean, if the same person had came in with the flu, coughing and sneezing and spreading germs and all sorts of people got sick, they'd be complaining and asking him why he came in sick. Dang if you do and dang if you don't. I'm quite certain that the OWNER of the establishment would not want people coming in sick. Some employers require a notice from a doctor, but how can someone get a notice from a doctor if they can't afford to even go to a doctor in the first place. Yeah, I would have left too, but I would somehow get to the owner, write a letter or something. That assist manager is wrong and should get some additional training or fired.
Date: 3/22/2005 7:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 34912    ahhhh... I hate this kind of thing. I'm with you, Pre! Not worth the money.
Date: 3/22/2005 7:37:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14412    Wifey, what is worse is the head manager said she would work with my friend to deal with these problems...Please the problem is that there is management that is not properly trained and have big heads and think they are untouchable. I like the phrase..Work don't fire you, you fire your employer when you quit.
Date: 3/22/2005 7:38:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14412    Kritter, even the District Manager thinks the Assistant shouldn't be there, but yet offered him another job in another store.
Date: 3/22/2005 7:39:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14412    TD, i am to start the 4th but might be able to start the Monday after Easter. I wouldn't work att his place though, I would put them in thier places way to fast...lol
Date: 3/22/2005 7:40:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14412    Sundin you are so right, and the reason he accused him is for seeing a car like his on the road out front of the place, But he did not see the driver and assumed it was him...I tell ya these people have nerve.
Date: 3/22/2005 7:41:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14412    Actually I just hired him with my Managers position as a Supervisor where I am working now...So he has a job alaready to go.
Date: 3/22/2005 7:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 58078    oh congrats on finding a job. Thats great. And the assistant manager was a jerk for assuming. You know what happens when you assume...lol
Date: 3/22/2005 7:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14412    Thinker, no one will speak up about the Assistant, because he lets the employees do as they please. But I told him to contact the area manager and then he will see action. The area manager is known for doing spot checks on stores when complaints of the management start coming in even if only one that is to many.
Date: 3/22/2005 7:44:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14412    Yep IP, and i can't wait to see what happens when his bosses find out how he was treating my friend in front of customers.
Date: 3/22/2005 7:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 58078    Hopefully he will get FIRED. =)
Date: 3/22/2005 7:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 53836    you and you're friend are right!
Date: 3/22/2005 7:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 62998    "TD, i am to start the 4th but might be able to start the Monday after Easter." then "Actually I just hired him with my Managers position as a Supervisor where I am working now" ummm you can hire before you starting working? hmmmm interesting. - Typo Demon
Date: 3/22/2005 7:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 47296    One of the first rules I learned as a supervisor, is that you never berate someone who works for you in front of others. You always do it in private. This managers actions were totally uncalled for just based on that fact. Also, if a person comes in with a valid excuse, you accept it, unless you know beyond a shaodw of a doubt that it is a lie. In this case, the manager had no evidence to suggest the person was lieing.
Date: 3/22/2005 8:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 62954    No manager should discuss one employee with the other employees. That should go to corporate and to the manager. However, there are hundreds of kids lookin for jobs and the asst. will continue to do this as long as he gets away with it...We got rid of a manager at Tuesday Morning by letting upper managment know what he was doing. Tell your friend to report him... DreamWisher
Date: 3/22/2005 8:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 37843    I would have done the same thing your friend did, thats just crazy.
Date: 3/22/2005 9:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 1432    I worked at Burger King for a day and a half before I walked out.. throwing me on tills and other crud with no training wasnt worth the stress they were paying lol..
Date: 3/22/2005 10:34:00 PM  ( Admin-FA )   I did the same thing. Except everyone quits Price Chopper because of the store manager. Gave the guy a two week notice and never returned. He's a jerk and doesn't talk to me anymore and eyeballs me thinking I'm "Trouble" in his store, I can't stand him.
Date: 3/23/2005 3:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 58308    I don't blame him for walking out.
Date: 3/23/2005 5:22:00 AM  From Authorid: 53360    i think it was a pretty dumb choice considering that yall live somewhere where you cant find a job for 6+ months...
Date: 3/23/2005 6:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 15157    Call corporate office and tell them of the managers deplorable actions!
Date: 3/23/2005 6:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 19220    I agree completely. I'm an asst. manager for a fast food place. There is never a reason to yell at an employee especially in front of other employees and customers. Even if the asst. thought your friend was lying. Sounds like the asst. had a different beef with your friend and used this as an excuse to yell (poor reason for doing so in my book though).
Date: 3/23/2005 7:08:00 AM  From Authorid: 24963    I would and have done the same. I've had to deal with people like that before. Standing there in front of them litterally looking like i belong in a hospital bed and still accusing me of not being sick(and that time ended up going to the emergency room and being admitted to the hospital). I hate pe4ople like that. seems they have nothing better to do.
Date: 3/23/2005 11:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 16069    I agree with you. Sounds like the assistant manager is on a power trip. I would be too if I made it to management at the Burger King.
Date: 3/23/2005 1:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 56489    They used to do that to me, when I worked there way back when, it does p ya off.
Date: 6/28/2005 3:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 39107    Thats how it was when I worked at BK, I worked hard, never said a word, never gave any trouble. Then I got fired for no reason, no explanation.
Date: 7/16/2005 5:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 16376    I don't think your friend should have been treated like that....
