What does your picture of heaven look like? (Even if you're not religious!) -asylem_supastar

Remember when you were a kid, and everything was so literal; had to be associated with a picture in your mind? When i was maybe 4 or 5 years old, i randomly asked my mother what heaven looked like. Although religion was not really much discussed in our household, she had been raised in Catholic schools. She told me that she wasn't really sure, that we would find out when we die; however, that it had gates of some kind, and that her father (who had passed away when she was young) would be waiting there for her behind them.

As a child, i devised this picture in my head that stuck with me for years. Remember that scene on every Mr. Roger's episode, where there is that little carousel thing with the rainbow-colored pillars that spins around and the old lady puppet comes out of it? For some odd reason i associated that with the 'gates of heaven' and pictured this colored spinning carousel in the sky that came down to get you when you died, with my grandfather's face (whom i knew only from pictures) poking out through the pillars. i also imagined that i would be allowed to roller-skate there as well.

What did your heaven look like as a kid? Or now? Or even if you don't believe in heaven, (i consider myself an atheist now anyways) did you ever, or did you picture it anyways? Or did you have a mental picture of what God looked like, or how about 'the place we supposedly go if we have sinned'? (i don't want my post to get deleted for saying the H-word! i don't know if admin. will allow it for this context!) If you have seen the movie with Robin Williams, 'What Dreams may Come,' it portrays a man who dies and goes to heaven, and how his heaven was a world made out of impressionistic paint, as he was an artist. He meets his young children in heaven, who were killed earlier in the movie in a car accident, and they take him to their own heavenly worlds which was kind of neat.

Be creative, and have fun! -asylem_supastar

Date: 3/12/2005 12:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 62146    If heaven was in the sky then it would be a beutiful place filled with stars and winodws to many relems and you could go into those relms anytime you want. You could stay in heaven for as long as you like.

Date: 3/12/2005 12:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 63077    It would be a Marine camp. Lots of good ol' discipline. All the time. Oh, man, it'd be so cool. Surrounded by barracks and armories and e. clubs and o. clubs and towers and whoo! Man. That'd be heaven. USMC0705

Date: 3/12/2005 1:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 39043    i believe in God and heaven..and I always pictured it blue a bright blue and the clouds pure white and looks like cotton. And the Gates of Heaven are Gold..and they are also a very bright cold. And you could walk on the clouds. It didn't look like a city or anything like that..but it was peaceful and your loved ones that u have lost were all there..along with animals. It is just beautiful.
Date: 3/12/2005 1:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 62267    Streets of pure solid gold through a meadow of flowers. Everyone dressed in white robes. Noone ever has to work or cry. Everyone has a castle built by God. Everyone's idea of heaven will be their heaven exactly. Sounds so peaceful hehe.

Date: 3/12/2005 6:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 28270    When I was little I used to think Heaven had EVERYTHING that I didn't have. Know I just picture it green grass, 100% sunny, and lots of kids, kitties, and puppies.
Date: 3/12/2005 6:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    Mine used to be the biblical representation, whatever that was, it made absolutely no sense. I liked reading the the book by "Kenny Kemp", the author of "I Hated Heaven", far more likely scenario I think, and perhaps easier for me to believe. I loved the part that was "Stan". Read a review of the book, for more detail.
Date: 3/12/2005 8:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 44960    My picture of heaven looks like a huge bowl of cherry vanilla ice cream! (((PrissieHuggzz)))
Date: 3/12/2005 9:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 17014    'Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy.' I saw this engraved on a stone and it gives me a picture in my mind what my heaven looks like....
Date: 3/12/2005 9:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    Kelsey, I liked that thought, very much.
Date: 3/13/2005 12:37:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63042    Kelsey, isn't that a country song, 'Holes in the Floor of Heaven?' It's a nice thought. Brenda i will have to check out that book, thanks! Freaq, i think i would tend to agree with you that however you picture it is how it would be if there is a heaven. If that's the case, however, i need to come up with a more glamorous mental picture! Thanks everyone, for all replies on this...keep them coming!
Date: 3/13/2005 12:48:00 AM  From Authorid: 30742    Beauty beyond anything here, wild animals tame and everywhere, people, Love, True love, no pain, no sorrow, no one dies any longer, eternal bliss, paradise!
Date: 3/13/2005 11:02:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63042    Here's another thought i had after a dream i had last night: maybe heaven is a place where everything you wanted to happen that didn't work out in life happens in heaven, and all works itself out, kind of like a custom-tailored world, just for you.
Date: 3/14/2005 4:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 17014    I didn't even think of that song when I saw that rock, but that song gives a good mental picture too. The video that goes with that song is so sad too.
Date: 3/16/2005 5:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 21435    Interesting question, lady. For me heaven is a town in the woodlands bordering the sea, peopled with anyone whom I've ever cared about, or who has ever cared about me. Love the question, Asylem Supastar Write on.....
Date: 3/16/2005 5:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 21435    and, of course: If that scenario got boring, we'd just change it. This is heaven, after all.. *wink*
Date: 5/8/2005 9:45:00 AM  ( Admin-DNL )   I picture heaven as not being much different than Earth, but there is no evil and you can fly. You can also do whatever you want and take a form of whatever you want.
Date: 6/17/2005 11:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 57232    I got in trouble with my mom for this one, saything this to her. This story is about 2 months old by the way, it happened then. My mom said that Frankenstein (my dog) could not come home with me if I were to come home for the weekend. At the time he did not have a pen ready outside and I didn't want to or could afford to board him up. I had just seen an episode of Twilight Zone and a man and his dog (cont.)
Date: 6/17/2005 11:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 57232    (cont.) my comp can be a real jerk sometimes, so to be on the safe side....OK a man was hunting with his dog and he did not realize he was dead or the dog was dead too. Well they he figured out about midway throgh the show that he was dead, well he didn't just beam up or down to anywhere so he and his dog went walking and they came up to a gate. The gateperson informed him that it was heaven. The guy is going in and so is his dog, the gateperson goes no the dog stays behind, you can't go in with the dog. Well the guy goes well he's my best friend I'm not going anywhere that he can't go. So he goes away, well he comes to yet another gate and that gatekeeper says this is heaven as well. Well he says I saw the man at the other entry way and he said I can't bring my dog in so I don't want to come in without him (cont.)
Date: 6/17/2005 11:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 57232    The gatekeeper says dogs have always been welcomed here, the other man is lying to you, lying because he is the gatekeeper to hell. So I tell my mom all of this and she goes what are you trying to say this house is hell?!?!? LOL, but this all has a point, my heaven must have my doggies, it must, otherwise it wouldn't be worth it to me.
