I originally had to write this poem for my gr10 drama after listening to a story about a female selki who was captured and forced to marry some guy.
To my dearest family:
I was once a wave in a vast ocean But now, I am not even a drop of water. I can no longer breathe, Or live as I did once along time ago. I am forced in to a different kind of skin now, A skin that is tight and hard. How I long to return to you and those waves, But as we both know that is impossible. For the day my heart was stolen, My freedom went along with it.
My life now is full of patterns and rules. Rules that don’t allow the freedoms of the sea. I am no longer one of Mother Nature’s gifts, But one of her enemies. I am quite certain, That no longer mother Isabella will let me in to her calming waves, Of hope and love. I am forced to live each day by her though, And feel her sweet breeze blow into my empty body. I hope that one day we shall be together again.
