I went to look at cars today!! ***Aeval***

Okay, if I have any typos, forgive me because for the past week, my hands have been shaking uncontrollably. Anyway, I went out looking at cars today. I got really excited over this 2003 Saturn Ion 3. It's $13,000..but the payments turn out to be $270 a month for 60 months which makes the car $16,200. I'm not too happy with that, but since I have no credit and all that neat junk, not many places are going to work with me. This car's REALLY nice..exactly what I was looking for and then some. Saturn isn't my first preference, but it seems like this place has the best deals and I haven't heard anything really bad about Saturn cars. KBB.com told me that the car that I'm looking at would actually be around 15 or 16,000. It's only got 30,000 miles and tons of nice little extras like leather interior, the temperature and compass on the rear view mirror, not to mention the thing is light sensitive and dims when lights hit it so it's not so harsh, 6 disc CD changer, sun roof, and traction control. And it gets pretty good gas mileage. So, I ask you all..should I do it? I can afford the payments, but I'm wondering if I should just go for it now since I HAVE to have a car by the end of April. Any input is greatly appreciated. :)

Date: 2/12/2005 3:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 49689    Saturns are really nice cars, and hold there resale and trade in value rather well...One thing you do wanna do is go to www.carfax.com and spend the 15.00 for a report on your car to see if it has had any major mechanical problems ,been in the body shop,or has been retitled..You'll need the VIN number and can put it in before you pay to see if there are any hits on the VIN..It will save you major headaches in the future P.S. unless it has tinted windows you'll hate the leather seats in the summer, and leather seats require more care, than cloth seats
Date: 2/12/2005 3:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 47218    can you try to pay it off early?
Date: 2/12/2005 3:28:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12118    Thanks, Py It doesn't have tinted windows, so I'll probably just get seat covers..I really don't like leather interior that much, but it is nice. It gets entirely too hot in the summer and I've burned my butt in my mom's car more than once, lol. I'll get the VIN when I go to look at it again, and I'll run it through carfax.com. $15 is a small price to pay for peace of mind, lol.
Date: 2/12/2005 3:33:00 PM  ( Admin )   Take a look at... These cars are brand new and they have the best warentee.. http://www.hyundaiusa.com/Vehicles/Elantra/Main.asp
Date: 2/12/2005 3:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    Lemme give you a little tip about Saturns so your not suprised if you do go that route. Nice cars yes.....when they first started making them and I was a wee one I said I'd own one some day. We own one now LOL....and we like it....BUT buyer beware....the headlights are bright so be prepared to be flashed alot even if your brights aren't on As for the carfax thing I totally agree with Py. But....if your possibly looking at OTHER cars...go with the month long use...it's only like $29 and you have unlimited use for a month Good Luck.
Date: 2/12/2005 3:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    i think 60 months is a LONG LONG TIME to stretch payments over! that is 5 years paying on it to pay it off i've heard some good things about saturns and some not so great things about them... we just recently bought a new car too!
Date: 2/12/2005 4:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 49689    I had a Saturn Becky and never had a problem with people flashng their light at me,are you sure yours are aligned properly?
Date: 2/12/2005 4:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 49689    You'll hear good and bad things about every car,no matter what..
Date: 2/12/2005 4:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 49689    Seat covers on leather seats O_o = catastrophe..Leather needs to breath, and be cleaned and lubricated, otherwise you end up with dry cracking seats...
Date: 2/12/2005 4:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 38406    Go for it!! It sounds like a really good car. I'm also looking for a car. I get my license in 2 weeks. It's hard to find a car that you like and can afford. I would go for it if I was you!!
Date: 2/12/2005 4:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    We think they are py....that was something we had looked into...they seemed aligned alright..*Shrugs* (I'm no car person though so it's not like I'd really know LOL)
Date: 2/12/2005 4:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    admin i'm pro hyundai also!good cars! very affordable i guess it helps that my husband works for hyundai*L*
Date: 2/12/2005 5:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 17081    Saturns have plastic doors.
Date: 2/12/2005 6:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 62876    I believe that insurance is pretty low on Saturns, too, but you have to consider your age and traffic record.
Date: 2/12/2005 6:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 11348    I don't know much about Saturns. I've never had one. I have a Grand Am that I am making payments on. I got a great deal on it and I got it a little over a year ago. I will advise you though, don't forget about insurance! I pay $230 a month on my car which is no big deal. What gets me is the near 200 I pay a month for insurance! I have had one ticket and am 21 so that did me in as far as insurance goes. With a car lease you have to have full coverage so make sure you get quotes on insurance before you take the plunge. You could end up paying much more than you thought you would.
Date: 2/12/2005 6:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 49689    Not only the doors on Saturns are plastic, all the body panels are, which makes them cheaper in the long run, because instead of repairing the panel..They replace the entire thing...and they don't rust either..
Date: 2/12/2005 7:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 18928    My mother in law has had her saturn for about 10 years now. She refuses to trade it because it is her favorite car she has ever owned.
Date: 2/12/2005 7:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 18928    Good luck deciding!!!
Date: 2/12/2005 7:10:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12118    Yeah, the rust factor is a big thing for me. Living in PA now, you see alot of cars with rust and everything around their wheel wells because of the salt they put on the road when it snows. It tends to rust out things quickly, and I wouldn't want to put the money in to get that fixed. Plus, I like the plastic idea, lol. The dealer was talking to me about one of the guys who bought one, and a tree fell on it and put a big dent in the side. They moved the tree, he called his insurance adjuster who couldn't come out until the next day...but lo and behold, it had popped out! Another thing is that people don't know how to drive up here. I ALWAYS see people running red lights, and it'll be nice not to have to worry about extensive damage if they happen to smack me.
Date: 2/12/2005 7:11:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12118    Yeah, I kinda don't like the 5 year plan..but I really can't afford anything less than that. I also think that's standard because that's how my mother-in-law paid for her last Saturn.
Date: 2/12/2005 8:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 49689    oh don't worry if they hit you,it will cause extensive damage..it'll rip a hole right in the plastic....
Date: 2/12/2005 8:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 62881    You can get your windows tinted. I had mine done for 145. As for the headlights, I had one go out and after it was replaced I started getting flashed because it wasn't aligned right. I had someone try to do it and it still isn't exactly right. I still get flashed sometimes, but not as often....Green Eyed Froggy
Date: 2/12/2005 8:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 62881    You can CHOOSE how to finance a vehicle. Don't let them fool you into accepting the first deal they throw at you. Try to work it out the way YOU want to. Also you can check with local companies and see if you can work with them also. Just do not SETTLE for anything. Get what YOU want. It is possible...Green Eyed Froggy
Date: 2/13/2005 5:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    you can choose how long you want to have it financed for(2,3,4,5 year) insurance wise if someone hits you they have to pay to get it all fixed... as long as your a good driver your safe, have you thought of looking at something a touch older? something a little more affordable if you dont want to do a 5 year loan
