*~* Cataracts *~* Hey,Hey,Paula

I had written recently that I was having vision problems. Well, today I went to the eye doctor and my numbers were off so he gave me a new Rx which I will have filled if getting my blood sugar under control doesn't help. Reading glasses may be a temporary solution. Man, glasses are expensive! I bought my daughter contacts and glasses and broke the bank! lol!

Well, he said that my cataracts were a level 2 now. I said, "Cataracts? They never told me I had cataracts before!" He went on the explain that last time I was in (2002) that I was a level 1. He said that sometimes they don't mention it when it is that low. It is common for diabetics to develop cataracts. So, on a scale of 1 - 4, with 4 being high, I am a 2. He said that we won't worry about doing anything until it's a 3. I need to be checked yearly.

I was wondering if anyone has had cataract problems and what was your experience?

Thanks in advacne!

Date: 2/12/2005 12:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 42945    I havent as yet Paula, mum did, a few years back...she had them removed at seperate times, her eyesight deterioated pretty quickly, after the first one was removed she had immediate results that were excellent, and the same with the second one...she didnt have to wear glasses for normal wear and only had to wear them for close work like knitting and sewing....she sailed through it.....hugs
Date: 2/12/2005 4:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 10798    Paula, I had cataract surgery back in December and the surgery itself was very easy and I saw 20/20 afterward. I have had eye problems since then, but the doctors don't think they were related to the surgery. In your case and in 99 percent of the cases, everything goes very well and you can see so much better afterward. I just fell in that little 1 to 2 percent that had problems.
Date: 2/12/2005 6:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 48809    Hi Paula, I have had cataract surgery also on both eyes. I too had trouble afterwards and had to have a laser treatment. I was never able to stop wearing glasses though and now I need to use eye drops nearly every day because the Dr. said I have allergies, which I never had before. I don't think this happens to very many people though.
Date: 2/12/2005 10:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 63042    Paula i do not have cataracts, but my eye Dr. says i will. My vision has been deteriorating rapidly since i was 7; i cannot even get a drivers license in my state. In fact, on Monday i will be getting tested for glaucoma and i am only 26! My care and concern goes out to you; let us know how this turns out! -asylem_supastar
Date: 2/12/2005 11:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 46527    My 75 year old father has recently had both eyes done, in each eye they fitted him with a corrective lens and he no longer wears glasses except for reading. Not bad for a man who has worn glasses for 68 years!
Date: 2/12/2005 11:30:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53961    Wow guys! Thanks! I got some reading glasses today. 2.75 power. On the chart they have on the rack it says stand back 14 inches and read the various lines. They were all blurry! lol! Well, $5.00 at the dollar store was sure better than a Rx that might have to be changed anytime. At least I can see to do computer and paper work now. I have ordered an adapter so I can use my MAC monitor with my PC. It is really big, whereas this one is small. I also had to change the View Text size on the browzer. Largest works best. Thanks again for your feedback!
