Anyone know anything about antibiotics?

I'm taking an antibiotic called doxycycline because my c-section incision became infected. I'm suppose to take it for 10 days. I take one in the morning and one at night. Yesterday was the 6th day I've been taking it, and I totally forgot to take one last night. I read the instructions and it said it's very important not to miss any doses, but if you do...skip it and continue your regular dosage schedule. I was wondering...since it's been over 24 hours since I've taken one does it lose effectiveness? The reason I ask is because I had to stop breastfeeding while taking this medicine because it's not safe for the baby and if missing that antibiotic last night makes it lose effectiveness what's the point of continuing to take them? This is no clue that the infection is gone, but my incision does look a lot better. Can staph infections clear up on their own?? I guess I should ask my dr. about this but I wanted to get yalls opinion.

Date: 2/11/2005 8:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 46527    You should continue with the next dose as soon as possible or you risk no completely killing the bacteria that are casuing the infection. IF you stop an antibiotic completely and it has not completed its job then it will not work on that bacteria again.
Date: 2/11/2005 9:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 53052    you should just continue taking them until they are all gone and try not to miss anymore... the infection might have cleared up(feels like it) but most likely it isnt completely gone better safe then sorry
Date: 2/11/2005 9:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 16845    Take the next dose as soon as you realize you've missed it. Also with this and any antibiotics you may be on in the future (In general) eat yougurt while on it
Date: 2/11/2005 9:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 3648    It's best to keep on taking the med. ...If you quit now then the med has no chance to help. Missing one dose will not cause it to lose it's effectiveness but to continue not taking it will.
Date: 2/11/2005 9:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 62675    No keep taking it!! If you miss a dose you pick right back up and get on schedule until they are all gone!!! It is very important!!!
Date: 2/11/2005 9:18:00 AM  From Authorid: 62579    I have missed does before too but I am not sure what would come of it. Talk with the Doctor or call the office and have them ask the doctor for you.
Date: 2/11/2005 11:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 30229    Just keep on taking them, dont stop!!! Even though you missed a dose, you need each and every pill inside you to comepletely get rid of the infection. If you stop taking them, the infection will return and probably be worse than before and this particular antibiotic will not be effective then,... just take all the pills and the one you missed also... SOME antibiotics can be doubled up on if a dosage is missed, but I am not familiar with this one, you can call the drug store that filled your prescription and ask them about it though, that is what I would do. I hope you get better real soon
Date: 2/11/2005 6:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 62100    You need to take your next dose ASAP..you are always supposed to finish the antibiotic therapy EVEN if you feel better.
