Well I think that is called Euthanasia and is illegal. Even though some beleive it should be legal. |

somtimes familys tell the people to pull the plug because they are in to much pain. some patients in hosibles make the stuff let them die. i begged my perents to let me die when i was depressed I still suffer from psot drmatic stress dissorder right now, I still do my best to push on though because you never know things could get better. the way to make this choice is over two things, dose the person really want to live do thery reaslly really want to live even through all the pain. and if so is their family able to watch them suffer. In the story in my family and in my life things have always gotten better but not in other peopls lives. |

I believe in passive euthanasia, which is refusing treatment or medicines if it's at the patient's request. I also believe in active euthanasia, if it's the patient's choice. |

That's euthanasia, and it's illegal In the USA and here in England...But I think it's allowed in Switzerland. I think it's unfair to keep people alive when there's no chance of recovery. However, There is a law that says doctors are allowed (If the patient consents) to give their termanilly ill patients pain-killing drugs to ease their pain even if the drugs will reduce their time left being alive. Also, with patients consent, Doctors do not have to resusitate termanilly ill patients to keep them alive if it is merely prolonging their death! (Hope that all made sense) |

I'd say that no matter how sick someone is, you should not end their lives for them. as for suicide, i also disagree with that. |

*shrug* I think sometimes it's better to put people out of their misery... it's illegal now because I bet people would find a loophole and get away with murder for no reason. |

If someone is just slowly dying, and they are suffering a lot... why not just stop "helping" your not saving them. Would you keep your best friend alive screaming in agony? I think people should think about "happiness" because thats part of health. We cant judge if its right to keep someone alive thats dying. Let them decide for themselves. |

If I was in that situation, I'd want the plug pulled. Why keep someone in the hospital who is very sick, not going to get better, and is just "hanging in"? It's pointless. |

after watching the way my mother died and she said for months and months before she did pass on that she didnt want to go on like she was....it was cruel and as far as I'm concerned was totally barbaric..and I sure as heck wouldnt want to go on and on like that to suffer such a painful and undignified death...I know its illegal, but to hold the one you love and watch them die like she did will haunt me for the rest of my life...so yes, I'm all for euthansia....hugs |

You wouldn't believ how often this is done in hosptitals anyway without other people knowing. I do believe it is the patients right to choose this but it has to be done carefully. Say in 3 months they should have counselling etc just to make sure that they really want to. Death with Dignity! We have too much technology today and we tend to keep people alive for the sake of keeping them alive. Ghost-chick |

Here is a true scenario: A woman that has been in and out of the hospitals and has been told by several doctors that she is dying because she has several different illnesses such as severe sleep apnea, a tracheostomy, has had cancer twice, conjestive heart trouble, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic bronchitis and emphysema, is on 6 L. of oxygen 24/7, and must take breathing tx. every 4 hours, nerve damage, sciatica, diabetes, two types of arthritis and chronic major depression with phobias. She was given at the last dr. office visit 6 months to live and to get her affairs in order. The woman wanted to get the living over with and over dosed on more than enough meds. She at least wanted to spare her loved ones in watching her draw her lasts breaths. Well, she did not die! In fact she had a healing. She now can walk around some and isn't confined to a wheelchair, she lost weight, still has the same health problems but they are not controlling her life as she is in control now/ Life is life! I watched two loved ones die in 2003 - one the used no heroics whic include not even a drink of water and I saw daddy so thirsty and they would not let me give him a drink, my brother fought to the end! He had acute myeloid leukemia and any cancer is horrible! I used to think death with dignity and still do in a way, but as long as there is life, you never know when you will be healed. |

There is such an act in Oregon called the Death With Dignity act which states that if someone is terminally ill and in the final stages of that terminal illness that a physician may prescribe the medication for the patient to take in order to end their life. |

Yes there are stories like the one penny gave but what about diseases like alzheimers or motor neuron disease. I don't think I could bear to have my mind or my body slowly waste away on me like that. I know someone who is suffering from motor neuron disease and everyday she prays that god will stop her suffering. She gets weaker and weaker every day and has stopped being able to eat food. It is a terrible thing to watch and worse to go through Ghost-chick |

I see cases like that every single day GC..but I don't think that those are the type that should be allowed to be considered in an act like that found in Oregon. In that act you have to be in the last stages of a disease such as cancer or what have you..and it has to be that there is no other option..that death is already imminnent and this is just a way for them to die with dignity and without suffering any longer. I have seen people pass on who were suffering and it is horrible.. |
