Yes it does work. It has for me in the past. Give them a few days to read over your application first.. If it does not work for others, it may mean they already have their minds made up who they want to hire, showing your interest to work for a company lets them know you are still open for hire and interested in working for them.. it is called showing enthusiasm... of course if you call them back more than say twice in a week, then you are kind of pushing it, Lol.. but if you are moderate about your call backs and are pleasant when you speak to them asking about the position still being open.. it does open doors. It is all in the attitude. |

Yes it does! It depends on the type of job...I would imagine. Fast food are typically high-paced and probably short-staffed, so I would imagine that they would get annoyed, but in other areas of employment, this is a good idea. |

I think it depends on the type of jobs your looking for. Fast food?...I doubt it works for. But yes...the more 'career' minded jobs, it does tend to help... |

Also even then it still does NOT get you the job...it's just kinda brownie points in your favor. Law firm. Two resumes look the same....one person calls a week after it's been dropped off the other person doesn't. If you were working there wouldn't you rather interview the person who showed genuine interest first??.. |

*shrugs* Worked for me. You have to give them a little while to make sure that they've had time to look over applications, though. You shouldn't drop off an application and call the next day. You can't see over eager, but you can't appear disinterested. Also, it's not the best idea to just drop off an application and then call. See if the hiring manager is there and if you can get an interview RIGHT THEN. That's ups your odds. That's how I got my job in the food service industry. |

It really depends on how much you call back. When you turn in your resume or application, wait a week and then call..dont call everyday. Sometimes it helps to know that you cared enough about the job and wanted it enough to call and see if they have looked over your application. My employer waits for people to call back and see, he hires the ones that do first. |

I'm the manager of a pretty big retail/convenience store and I can tell you we get ALOT of applications everyday. Especially from teenagers who are looking for after school jobs. I admit sometimes we don't get a chance to get a really good look at all the applications and being open 24 hours a day, serving the public, telephone calls can get irratating. (Who has time to answer a phone half the time, lol) I'll tell you what impresses me, hand in the application, then wait a week, after about a week, go back and ask to speak to the manager. (Preferably not at a busy time like lunch) Ask if they're still hiring, and if so inquire about the job, hours and stuff and let it be known that you're really interested and that you already put in an application. That always makes me go back and look for it. Sometimes if you ask the right questions you can get an interview right then and there. ~Take Care~ |

it's only a suggestion, it doesn't mean you have to do it. Some employers do appreciate the interest shown by the applicant, others don't. moonshine3 |

I was told when applying for a job to dress slight better than I would be dressing for the job and to make sure I was always well groomed. Most employers want you to be clean cut. (teeth cleaned and pleasant breath also count) After turning in the application, wait a few days and call back the manager and ask if he got the chance to look over your application. Sometimes fast foods want to hire teenagers and a certain type. Maybe they feel you might be over-qualified for the job? I really wish you luck because jobs are getting harder to find. |

Well it certainly worked for me! I think it shows that you have initiative and motivation. Perhaps when you called back before they already made up there minds about someone else. Don't let it discourage you. |

No calling an employer back will NOT get you a job..YES it does annoy them,AND if they say "We are still looking over the applications" THAT means, fat chance, better look someplace else, because you ain't workin' here...Seen it happen more times than I can remember...Where I work, our office mamanger even looks at the applications, and if you don't have a white name,or anything that resembles it..She says well we don't want that one,and your app goes into the Do Not Call pile.... |

I've gotten interviews. It shows you are really interested in the job. And I bugged my current boss. I've got the job, obviously. The pay sucks, but I get to meet all kinds of cool people! In fact, I've made a friend just because she's such a normal customer and we started getting into a huge Bush discussion. Maybe you just aren't trying the right places. |
