How come the messiest people always have pets? -asylem_supastar

Have you ever noticed that the most slobbish people ALWAYS own animals? They should make cleanliness a requirement before they let you adopt animals from shelters, like they make sure your previous veterinary records were clean and up-to-date.

i knew these people that lived in this dirty trailer with 2 dogs and 5 cats. It was a mother and son, and they worked with me at a job where we worked 12-hour shifts, which meant they would leave the dogs inside for 14 hours a day. Your feet would stick to the kitchen floor from their dried urine. The entire place reeked of cat feces, so badly that if you were there for 15 minutes, your hair and clothes would soak up the stench. They would buy disposable litterboxes for the cats, but instead of throwing the old one away, they would leave it there and just open a new one. There were 5 litterboxes lined up down the hallway; all were overflowing, and the cats would track the sand and feces all over the house.

Another couple i knew, they had all these little rat-dog chihauhau-looking things. They would defecate all over the place. The girl told me i could have a seat when i came in and gestured to the couch, which actually was covered in tiny little turds. Words cannot describe how appalled i was.

These people look normal as can be; you would have no idea they were like this. And they see nothing abnormal about their homes, no shame or embarrassment about it. i won't invite people over if i have dirty dishes in my sink! It just makes me angry because the pets cannot clean up after themselves, but have to live in their own filth. It is cruel, and to me qualifies as animal abuse, or at least neglect. What do you guys think? -asylem_supastar

Date: 2/6/2005 12:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 23959    omg that's gross!!! Poor animals..They don't deserve to live that way You would think next door neighbors would be able to smell the stench. Hopefully someone will, and call someone in to investigate. Give those animals the proper place to live.
Date: 2/6/2005 12:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 46527    Pets are messy, some people, although they can cope with normal household chores do not realise the extra work that comes with having pets until it's too late.
Date: 2/6/2005 12:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 63011    That's bad. But I do know what you're talking about. I have a friend that has 5 adult labs, plus 8 lab puppies now and a mutt. The adult labs stay outside most of the day, but they let them in at night. You can only imagine the stench in that house! I hate going over there because of it. And the puppies urinate all over the floor and they dont even bother to clean it up. What's worse, is they walk around barefoot in all that. It's so gross! -GreenClover
Date: 2/6/2005 1:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 13138    I have lots (and I mean lots) of pets, but my house stays clean. It does not smell.I also keep the horse stalls and all of our pens clean. It is alot of work, but I don't care because I love my pets.My friends joke that you could eat off the horses' floors. Lol. My animals and family are well cared for. I do not fall into this stereotype you are portraying here. Neither do any of the people I know who have pets. Maybe you need to call animal control on these people you know. Take care,
Date: 2/6/2005 1:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 48250    Sweetheart You cannot sterotype neither make Assumptions that all people who own pets., are unclean., or messy.., Some would be offended by this statement.. I have Always Owned a German shepherd, and Other animals although I kept only my shepherd in the home with me for extra protectio...I honestly am not being arrogrant neither smug in telling You Any one could have came in my home and would not have known I had a dog., unless he Pounced on Someone! Date: 2/6/2005 1:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 48250    Those people need to be reported for their Abuse and Neglect of those animals...That is a Shame...Please REPORT them...T/C
Date: 2/6/2005 1:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 7574    I am disorganized, but not uncleanly. I take care of my pets though
Date: 2/6/2005 4:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    i agree, i wouldnt say ALL people who own pets are unclean and messy. i have 3 dogs (a pekinese, a pomeranian and a chuahiahi) but my house is clean and my dogs are trained. these people sound like they are neglecting their animals. there is ALOT of responsibilities that come with owning an animal and, as someone else had stated, many people dont realize that until it is too late. they need to make sure someone is available to let the dog out when he needs to go out and CLEAN UP AFTER THEM! i use to have cats and i know how bad they can smell. i could not imagine not cleaning the litter boxes. it sounds to me like someone needs to report these people to animal contol. this type of "care" is not fair to the animals
Date: 2/6/2005 4:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 4144    i guess if they are full grown adults and there are no kids in the house it's ok if they can stand it. sounds gross to me though! right now we have one dog and she is a 5-6 month old choc. lab that gets bigger by the second! she stays in the basement and uses newspaper when we aren't here. she refuses to go out in the rain so we don't try to force her to go out to potty if it's raining!! my daughter is the owner of the dog so she cleans up after the dog every day and mops the basement with bleach at least 2 times a week. more depending on how many table scraps the dog has had!!
Date: 2/7/2005 10:28:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63042    You guys misunderstood my statement...i said it seems like the messiest people always have animals (on top of their messiness) NOT all people who have pets are messy. KY you are twisting my words around completely. i also know people who have many animals who keep their houses spotless. i have had pets before, and have taken care of them, so the only reason this post would offend anyone is if they were someone who DID live like that. Obviously you are not one of them, so no reason to be offended. Sorry if you are.
