I really hate the word "man" and hate being called "mister"

I know people are trying to be "professional" or whatever.. but it's the 21st century, can't business people start to get a sense of humor? it's like they're robots or something, using all these big school words and when you try to amuse them they show NO expression on their faces and repeat a recorded-like message right back at you. and they keep calling me "mister" and refer to me as "man". uh I'm only 18 and I don't care if I'm 30, being called a "man" is so formal and annoying. how bout when you go to a bank and instead of "can I help you, mister?" say something like "hey dude, wassup with you today?"

Date: 2/4/2005 8:59:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15904    yea, but to me it's still better than a machine-like message and blank beady eyes
Date: 2/4/2005 9:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 53052    i would rather be refered to in a formal way then someone working in a professional location saying hey whatcha want? if someone who i was doing business said that to me i'd take my money and run personally
Date: 2/4/2005 9:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 53284    When my bank says "hey dude, wassup with you today?", I'll be taking my banking elsewhere. Business english is the language of business. There is an expectation of politeness involved. Deal with it.
Date: 2/4/2005 9:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 62675    I always use sir or mam. I however hate being called mam it makes me feel old. When you work at a company you are representing them. It is usually at the bosses request that you address people woth respect. However, there are a few resturants that make their employees be rude to you and you can throw shells on the floor and write on the walls and tables. It is a very profitable chain!
Date: 2/4/2005 9:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 49091    I KNOW its professional, but I cant stand being called Miss...it drives me INSANE!!! I cannot just walk up to someone n be like good morning miss, im so use to being like Hey! What's up?....I totally agree with you. People are WAY uptight er professional sometimes, they need to loosen up a bit.
Date: 2/4/2005 9:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 60685    I've always felt sooo old when people call me by my last name, hehe. Oh, and the Mrs. drives me nuts, I'm only 22, I don't look like a Mrs. Last December I went on a cruise and when I saw they had me down as Mrs. Jennifer on my cruise card I freaked.
Date: 2/4/2005 9:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 62675    I prefer Miss over Mam but I get mam cause I am always with my son!
Date: 2/4/2005 9:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 62383    im 25 and I always get called "sir" lol
Date: 2/4/2005 9:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 62383    I call girls Mam all the time though... just cuz its fun and most dont like it
Date: 2/4/2005 9:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 15157    How bout..."Can I help you Sir"...do you like one?...Next time before someone agitates you...What you do is...Hold out one hand and say..."Just Browsing"
Date: 2/4/2005 9:33:00 AM  From Authorid: 15157    LOL!!!!!!!!!!@Hey Hey Paula!!!!
Date: 2/4/2005 9:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 62927    Yes, I don't like being treated like page four on how to handle customers. But when I use sir and mam I try to get respect in the tone. Thanks, Celtic River
Date: 2/4/2005 9:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 58308    I would probably take my business elsewhere.
Date: 2/4/2005 10:18:00 AM  From Authorid: 36766    I don't mind being called Miss, but when someone calls me "dude", that makes me cringe. If a guy calls me dude, I say "uhm, okay, dudette".
Date: 2/4/2005 2:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 62146    ok I kinda agrue with the others, wouldent it be werid just a bit if your bank went "hey dude wussup" :/
Date: 2/4/2005 2:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 62624    LOL!! I get called Mam' or Miss all of the time. It's a respect thing. I wish that more people have it. Grant it, I'm only 31, but you learn to appreciate it especially when dealing with people that are younger than me. In return, I treat my elders with respect, too! Mister and Ms, Miss, or Mam'. As you get older, like my age, you understand. Respect will mean a lot more to you then than it does now.
Date: 2/4/2005 2:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 62876    It is the polite way to talk, but I don't really like getting called Mrs.Mylastname or Ma'am. It stinks...LOL! BUT, I respect the people for being polite.
Date: 2/4/2005 3:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    LOL!!! you cant expect that in business hun...LOL!!I like to be called by my first name in the bank as I know them all quite well, and they still call me Mrs.....I know its a respect thing..but hey!!!!!!
Date: 2/4/2005 5:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 12709    LOL.. I know how you feel. I'm only 21, and when I go to order fast food or go to the grocery store or something like that, I HATE IT when people call me ma'am. I am NOT a MA'AM! LOL
Date: 2/4/2005 5:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 12709    One time I went to Jack in the Box and ordered a salad or something, and the girl working there said, "We're out of salads right now, ma'am!" I got SO mad, but looking back, I think it was the "ma'am" comment that made me mad, not the fact that they were out of salads. lol
