I lived in a basement about 4 yrs ago (first place I had to call my own after I left my ex husband) it was small, but it was my home. I was working at the time and I'd have a couple dishes in the sink and when I'd get home from work they would be done (and I lived alone) But there was a couple time when the people upstairs did laundry and it would over flow (had to be watched closely) and my bedroom got flooded on more than one occasion along with the rest of my place. Eventually black mold started growing on the walls and under the carpeting and yes plywood on the floor. I did let my landlord know and he did nothing about it. I kept getting sick from it. I moved out shortly after, I was there about a year. (the mold and flooding happened at the end) |

I lived in my sister's basement for a while. It was awful. I know what you're talking about with the water sounds. Plus my nephews were really loud when I was trying to sleep. My bedtime was before theirs. Go figure. I had to get up at five am, they didn't. I can definately feel for you. Good luck! |

Oh when I first moved into the basement apartment I was on welfare getting $520 a month, the rent was $450 inclusive and I made arrangements to pay extra for the lastmonths rent so my total rent at the time was $500 and that left me with $20 to last the month. I was there for a couple months I believe like that before I got working. |

I would move out if it was like that. That would definitely annoy me. But I don't know anything about basements. Here in New Orleans, we're under sea level, so it's all swamp and a lot of different areas are sinking. |

$450-$500 for a basement????? I pay $450 for a one bedroom apartment on the second floor (no one above me) and it includes water! That's ridiculous! |

Well, I live in a house with my parents, but I'm the only one with my room in the basement. It's pretty nice, because I'm one the other side from the bathroom and the pipes, but I always hear people walking above me and I always hear people talking through the vents when I'm trying to sleep..It's annoying. |

My mother and I lived in my Aunt and Uncle's basement for a year, about 3 years ago. It wasn't too bad since they had it all refurnished and split the basement into 3 rooms. My mother and I stayed in the "gathering" room, it was just like a living room and we slept on pull-out couches. Thankfully, the room we stayed in didn't make noise. The only problem we had was during that summer, when those Pincher bugs kept getting in from one of the windows, that I am assuming wasn't put it right and there was enough room for them to get in. |

Not a basement but a garage converted to a house! I would rather be in a basement! |
