Is There A Vet In The House???

lol!!! Hello USM and Good morniing to ya!!! I have a quick question that a few pet owners might be able to answer for me.

Ok my yellow lab, Tiddus, has not been feeling well and is really starting to trouble me. He has been coughing alot these past 2 days and these coughs are continual and farely deep and they usually make him gag or sometimes trow up. I don't have the money to take him to the vet yet cause I just started my new job and my hours aren't consistant. I would just like some thoughts as to what might be wrong with him or if there's anything I can do to help him until I get the money. I really love my doggy a whole bunch and it hurts me everytime he starts coughing. I have been treating him like a sick child and making him lie down and rest in our room. He even has a child gate blocking the door!!! lol It seems like the coughing just gets worse when we go to pet him cause he gets excited.

Any Ideas???

I appreciate your time and any thoughts might help so start typing!!!hehe

Have a great day USM and Thank You!!

Date: 1/19/2005 7:53:00 AM  ( Chatmin-PB )   Hearing your cat or dog cough can make any pet owner a concerned "parent" - with good casue. Coughing can signal a viral infection, an allergy, a collapsed trachea, or numerous other problems, including serious ones such as a lung tumor. Also, repeated coughing can be hard on an animal's lungs and heart. Take your pet to the vet to have her rull out any serious cause behind the hacking. If your pet's coughs are more frequent than once an hour, your vet may sugest a product such as Robitussin Maximum Strength Cough Syrup, which contains cough suppressing dextromethorphan. A safe dose is 1 teaspoon per 30 pounds of body weight, taken every 6 to 8 hours.

BUT BE SURE TO SEE YOUR VET
Date: 1/19/2005 9:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 18527    sounds like kennel cough... you should take him to the vet to recieve a full checkup, and possibly antibiotics. In the meantime, keep him warm, dry, and use a humidifier where he sleeps... (no menthol)
