Eating Problems

  Author:  55386  Category:(General Advice) Created:(12/26/2004 6:50:00 PM)

I don't know what is wrong.... A month ago, and around 5 months before then, I had a few eating problems. The first time was subconciously and out of my control. For three days I wouldn't eat. I could feel the pain my stomach had from no food, but something in me kept saying I just wasn't hungry. The second was on my own, I just felt so.... Fat and ugly, I guess you could say.

I had stopped that because a few people found out and got upset. They said they loved me and didn't want to see me go down the path. They didn't want to see me with an eating disorder, so I stopped.

But let me get down to the real problem. I have gone down three waist sizes in the past 2-3 weeks.

I never have really eaten meals. I usually make up little snacks that usually add up to a full meal. I usually get 2-3 meals a day through eating snacks. I'm eating healthy, but I can't understand this. I go and try to eat a full meal, and I'll eat a quarter of it. Nothing more. I just can't down it. I've tried frozen food dinners, and I take one bite and I feel like throwing up. I usually can only eat ramen(Mr. Noodles) and that is pretty much the only 'meal' I can eat all at once.

I can't make myself eat, and I believe this is how my first problem with eating started. I can't see my doctor because I'm already going to him for my back, and I've had other health problems I've seen him around 20 times in the past 3 months. I'm scared that I do have a disorder, and my doctor said he doesn't want to put me on medication. I was supposed to go to counciling because I went to him with depression, but my mom won't make the sessions, and it's through her work, so she has to.

I've gone to my mom, stating the problem, and she says it's only because I'm getting taller, but I haven't grown, not the least bit. I don't know what to do.... I still am fighting with myself about telling my doctor. But I'm scared, because if he sends me to a diet specialist, I won't be able to follow through with it. I cannot sit there and eat. I can't make myself.

The first time this happened, it took my friend a week until she made me sit down and eat, and I don't even think a person doing that will help me this time. I'm scared, and I don't know what to do. Advice?

Date: 12/26/2004 7:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 62100    I think that no matter your misgivings about it, that you need to go and consult with your doctor. It could be something as simple as the meds that you are already on are making you anorexic (which just means that you are not hungry..not the actual disease)..if you tell your doctor what is going on then perhaps just a med change can solve your problem...losing enough weight that you go down 3 pant sizes in such a short time is NOT a good thing and could lead to potentially more serious problems..your body NEEDS sustenance or it will shut down..this IS serious and you NEED to see a doctor..please don't wait, do whatever is necessary to make you better!! You also need to make your mom realize how serious this really is..growing taller does NOT make you lose that much weight in such a short time..
Date: 12/26/2004 7:10:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 55386    I'm not on any medications whatsoever....
Date: 12/26/2004 7:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 62100    OK..I just thought that since you had other medical problems and a bad back and all..well then, that makes it all the more serious then..because now there is no reason in as far as meds to make you be going through this...you really, REALLY need to go see your doc and be honest with him/her. Tell the doc exactly what you have related here to us, and do everything in your power to cooperate and get well...
Date: 12/26/2004 8:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 62928    I know alot about anorexia as i suffered from it for my whole teenage years. I wish I could tell you to just stop now, by i know that won't really help. If only you could see into the future and how it will effect your body in the long run. I have so many health problems now because of my anorexia. I can't eat any sweets, chocolate, anything with sugar because my teeth STING with unbearable pain. I no longer have the feeling of hunger because i starved myself all the time my body got confused. I wouldn't let myself eat when my body was like begging for it, then All of a sudden i would fill myself with food and throw up. (i wasn't bulimic alot though) So now when I wake up everymorning I have to eat right away or else I get sick and throw-up. And if I eat to much, I get sick and throw up. I can only eat about 3-6 small meals through out the day, and I'm always cold. And with all of that I am much healthier now then I was. I became a vegan, cut out all dairy, milk, and fatty toxins. I started pampering myself and got more confidence, gained back some weight and now i'm a happy "normal" person. I am almost positive you have anorexia (or developing it) even if you don't want it, or don't think you have it, you may very well have it. Most people who have it didn't want it. Man, I get so sad when i see girls with anorexia because they have no idea exactly what there getting into, Its horrible. You just need to figure out WHY, Why are you sad? Why don't you want to eat? What is bothering you? Who is abusing you? (alot of anorexics are because they are molested, abused, OR because there parents expect too much from them) Are you a perfectionist? Do your parents push you to excell in school? Of course you do not have to answer any of these questions, there just for you to think about and I hope this helped some. God Bless and Stay Safe.
Date: 12/26/2004 10:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 19625    Anorexia is a disease, but it's not what most people think of when people try to lose weight by starving themselves and such (that's Anorexia Nervosa), Anorexia means Loss of Appetite, and it can be just as serious. I would reccomed seeing a doctor, as this can get very serious without the person being aware. This isn't a mental thing (like the Eating Disorder is) it's a physical thing where your body just simply isn't hungry, it can be caused by a lot of things, if you're particularly stressed out about somthing then that could be causing it. Regardless, losing that much weight that quickly is not healthy. I hope you figure this out. Erin-
Date: 12/27/2004 5:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 56489    In our phone books there used to be a thing in the blue pages called Tell-Med it's toll free but you pick your topic and it tells you everything about it and where to go for help toll free numbers, and therapy groups in your area. You might want to look through your phone book to see if you have anything like that.
Date: 12/27/2004 12:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 35720    Because you are so eager to get help, this doesn't sound like Anorexia. Anorexics generally don't want help and very often deny the possibility of having a disorder in the first place. However, judging by your post, I highly doubt this is a healthy thing that's going on with you and I strongly recommend you go to the doctor ASAP..
Date: 12/29/2004 11:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 52489    Sounds like anorexia. Call an anorexic support group--your doctor's office will have the information. The group will know what to do. Do it now, before things get worse.
Date: 12/29/2004 2:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 19625    Also, I forgot to mention, a doctor can prescribe you somthing to increase your appetite.
Date: 1/6/2005 10:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 62880    You said what it is, phycologically, you are thinking and convincing yourself that you are fat and ugly, but what you dont look at is your health, when you dont eat you loose all the stuff you need, (Like vitamins, protein, ETC) to stay healthy. If you have a good heart and your a humble person, you are the most beautiful person. I hope that you realize that society thinks that people should have good looks to be successful. Not true though, faith in God will make you successful and a very beautiful person. I hope things work out for you. God Bless. Much Love. Spiritual-Love
Date: 1/21/2005 11:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 53054    Gothic Angel I think that it would be a good idea if you talked to your doctor about your concerns about having anorexia...Anorexia is a serious illness which if treated early is much better...please try your best to sit down and eat a meal at least once a day...*hugz* if you want to talk please feel free to message me! *hguz*
