Did anyone read about this? -GreenClover

Today I was reading on msn news where this man sold his three son's Christmas gifts on eBay. They weren't getting along, and he warned them he would do it if they didnt stop, and well, they didnt listen. So, the dad did what he said and put all their gifts on auction on eBay. I think that's so wrong to do to them on Christmas. I think they could have handled the situation differently. I mean, it's Christmas! What are your thoughts on this?

Date: 12/25/2004 3:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 55533    Oh, yes, I read this on AOL news. The only thing I didn't get is, what did the children do to deserve that? I was also trying to find the ebay page to read of what the man posted. There is more here: http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20041224074409990004
Date: 12/25/2004 3:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 55533    But still, how could he do that on Christmas?! The ONE day out of the year when we are suppose to forget our worries and love one another like as if we are in denial or something?! Well, if it's for those kids to learn...I still wonder what they did.
Date: 12/25/2004 3:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 49689    They had been warned that those were the consequences and they agreed to behave, but did the opposite..So I don't find it mean at all....
Date: 12/25/2004 5:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 61013    oh yeah I head bout that I thought that was really messed up. He should have handled it differently
Date: 12/25/2004 5:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 62881    I really don't blame him. The MSNBC article I read said that when the Father told them he was thinking of selling the $700. worth of video games on Ebay, the oldest son "Double Dared" him to do it...so he did...all because they wouldn't stop "fighting, using cuss words and obscene gestures." They refused to do what they were told...Green Eyed Froggy
Date: 12/25/2004 5:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 36967    It would have been better if he did not buy the presents at all.
Date: 12/25/2004 6:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 14780    Well if what Green Eyed Froggy is right...well then I would have done the same exact thing. Maybe the kids will listen....
Date: 12/25/2004 6:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 14780    *if what green eyed froggy "said" is right...LOL...
Date: 12/25/2004 6:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 7574    Hopefully they learned their lesson...
Date: 12/25/2004 7:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 35114    My friend decided to take away her younger siblings gifts if they couldn't get along (one at a time, and they could earn them back) and I think that was a good idea. But selling them on Ebay does seem kinda cruel.
Date: 12/25/2004 7:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 35114    I agree now. If what Green Eyed Froggy says was the way it happend, then they didn't deserve gifts in the first place. But I guess selling them makes a better example.
Date: 12/25/2004 8:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 36766    I heard about this the other day on the news. The auction was up to about $650 then it was supposed to end on Sunday. Is it still up? I would like to see it.
Date: 12/25/2004 8:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 54406    That isn't fair. I would just make them wait longer or something, but that isn't nice. How would that get on the news? Did he go out and tell people or something? Hmmmm...
Date: 12/25/2004 8:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 54406    Well Green Eyed Froggy mentioned the way the kids were acting, then I totally agree...
Date: 12/25/2004 9:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 62897    Noooooooooooooooo,I don't agreee at all. There is always better ways handling discipline. Not the cruel way like this.-Pamela
Date: 12/25/2004 10:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 36901    I'd have done the same thing. Kids have to know that there are consequences for their actions. I believe that if more people would dicipline their kids, the world would be a better and safer place.
Date: 12/25/2004 11:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 19625    You know, if the dad warned them that he was going to do it, they should have listened and settled down, they didn't so they were punished. Yeah, it was harsh, but it's not like he didn't give them a chance to fix their behavior. I knew this one family, the little girl got in trouble at school 1 day (ONE DAY!) so her mom picked up the phone and "called santa" and said that the girl had been naughty and shouldn't get any presents. Then they took all the other presents for her out from under the tree, she didn't get any presents at all that year. The girl cried for days, that makes me sad to remember. Erin-
Date: 12/26/2004 1:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 62422    very very cruel. its too bad the father was such a dork. cyndi.
Date: 12/26/2004 9:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 17081    He handled it wrong. I would have smacked their butts if they refused to listen. Spare the rod, spoil the child.
Date: 12/26/2004 10:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 14754    sounds like these kids are not very well mannered...i think the parents need to go to parenting classes on how to handle these kids, that should be the parents Christmas present to them.
Date: 12/26/2004 10:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 33925    I guess I am going to be in the minority here..He warned them and told them what the concequences were going to be. As a parent he had to follow through. I bet those kids will think twice before they act up again..especially after they have already been warned. That's the problem with kids today. Everything has to be so politically correct. Too many outside forces are involved in the raising of our kids. They were told, they were warned, they continued and they were punished..end of story.
Date: 12/26/2004 1:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 57232    It wasn't my dad, and that's only because he doesn't know how to use the computer. But anyways, wow, I guess the kids should have behaved.
Date: 12/26/2004 2:38:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63011    Yes, he did double dare his dad, but I still think it's wrong to do that on Christmas. The mom was even crying about it. I think she should've spoken up and done something.
Date: 12/26/2004 3:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 3125    If one of the sons had the gall to double dare his parent, then I think something has been amiss long before the gifts were bought for them. In other words..Something should have been done to correct their rebellious attitudes long before the gifts were bought.
Date: 12/26/2004 10:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 49689    I think they should have kept the game system and put the kids up for sale on Ebay LOL
Date: 12/27/2004 7:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 62675    I think it is pyschologically damaging. The worst I would do would be to take them away for a month not get rid of them completely!
Date: 1/1/2005 12:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 55533    Now that I read more of it on NBC news, I feel of what the dad did was right. "Good things are suppose to happen to good people and bad things are suppose to happen to bad people."
