Here in the land of USM, I have taken notice that at one time or another, we all were just a bunch of misfits. That was until we found this wonderful Utopia of Super Misfits. Seated upon their lovely throne were the ever-loving King George and his lovely bride, Queen Ginger, but to us, they seem to be more like Santa and Mrs. Claus, for they have given us one of the greatest gifts in our lives--A place to come and unwind, be ourselves and make life-time friends, loves, and debating companions.

During the time I've held these interviews, my Post Office Box has been over-flowing with requests to interview the King and Queen of our common homeland. I thought nothing would be better than to allow my dear friends and readers of USM to find this special gift under their USM Christmas Tree...

**Ginger- I knew it ... I just knew it. Someday the great and powerful USM interviewer would cast her gaze our way. At some moments I wanted to jump out with arms waving saying "Me ... Me, I want to be interviewed". But then I would read some really fantastic previous interviews and wonder if I could be so witty and interesting. So I would go back into hiding ... avoiding the attention of Spacie ... LOL. Now that we are done with our answers to these in depth questions, it feels more like an honor to be selected. Thanks Spacie .. *whew***


WHEN AND WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO START THIS HOME AWAY FROM HOME AND WAS IT ALWAYS CALLED UNSOLVED MYSTERIES?

Dec 20th 1995.. and Yup.. it was always Unsolvedmysteries and more than ever it’s a mystery.

(for sure!)


WHY DID YOU DECIDE ON THE NAME UNSOLVED MYSTERIES AND DID YOU EVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH AFFILIATIONS FROM THE TELEVISION PROGRAM OF THE SAME NAME?

It was available and we thought there were many more unsolved mysteries in real life then they could ever put on TV. Nope no affiliation with the TV show. Nope no problems from the TV show. The rule of law is there has to be confusion with the names and nobody would ever confuse our site with that television show. Which means if you were on our site you would never think it was the Television show you were watching.


WHAT IS THE BEST THING, FOR YOU, THAT HAS COME FROM MAKING THIS SITE AND HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT CLOSING SHOP?

We made so many friends from around the world. In Nearly every country we have friends. We have never thought about closing it, mostly due to all the help we get from the great Admins, Chatmins, Volunteers and the Users themselves. (like yourself).

WHAT MAKES YOUR USM LIGHTS SHINE?

Love, friendship and consideration. This site grew from love of people and the members have shown it. That’s what it’s all about for us. We see it every day with all of the posts, humor and poetry. People express themselves and we get to be part of that.


WHEN YOU FIRST CREATED THIS SITE, DID YOU IMAGINE IT WOULD BE RUNNING STRONG NINE YEARS LATER?

Not as strong as it is. Over 100,000 page views a day and 400,000 stories and 10X that in comments.. Wow, All the great members and many weddings and children. We truly have a strong community here.

(for real :D Now if we could all just come together, we could begin a new and better world :D)

HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU BEEN MARRIED?

We have been happily married for 32. In fact, the honeymoon has never ended for us. It sounds kind of like a fairy tale, but no matter how much or how little we have had in material things, everyday starts with “I love you,“ and ends in the same way. The best parts of everyday, are when we can be together.

ANY CHILDREN?

We only wanted one, maybe two children. Both of us came from bigger families, so maybe this is why we wanted to pare that down. When we had our first child, a wonderful daughter, she was perfect. She almost never cried or fussed about anything. So we decided to stop at perfection! LOL

(Awwwww!)


HOW DID YOU MEET?

George - We met when we were in 7th grade by accident then in high school again. We were best friends the moment we started talking. It was amazing. And things only got better from there! LOL

Ginger - The first time I met George, I just thought he was a flirt. He was talking to all the girls and I just walked away. I’m not much into rivalry. But then we were thrown back together by a mutual friend that thought we would be terrific for each other, and I guess they were right. Glad I didn’t keep the idea of him being a flirt in my head, or I wouldn’t have given him a second chance. I quickly found out that George is a one woman man. * grins *

(Sorry Radgirls…your gig is up! LOL :P)


WHAT KIND OF CARS DO YOU DRIVE & WHAT WERE YOU BOTH DRIVING WHEN YOU FIRST MET?

Right now we have a 2002 Ford Ranger small truck. That is all we need for light hauling and it is what George likes to drive to work. Barely takes any gas and has a great stereo : ). LOL.

Our family vehicle for trips, drives in the country and the one I use for errands and shopping is a nice 2001 Town & Country Chrysler Van. I especially like that it remembers the seat and mirror settings for both George and I. It makes me feel special somehow : ) LOL.

The original car George was driving when we where mere teenagers, was a huge convertible boat (big car) : ) LOL


DO YOU LIVE IN A RURAL OR URBAN ENVIRONMENT?

I guess you could say that we have both rural and urban benefits where we live. We are just far enough out that we have acreage, and so does everyone in this area. We don’t do well living 10 feet from a neighbors house. We love to have lots of trees, grass and wild animals. So we live in a forest it feels like, however we can be at the movies or a shopping mall in 15 minutes, and in downtown Seattle or the ocean beach in 25 minutes. We love it here !!!

WHAT IS “YOUR SONG” --YOU KNOW, THE ONE YOU DANCE TO?

I’d Like to Get to Know You by ( Spanky and Our Gang) and Cherish by The Association (60’s bands), but that is when we met. Flower children from days gone by .. but the ‘kid’ in us are still strong.

*suddenly feels like tossing daisies all over the crowd and passing out peace beads*


WHO WAS THE FIRST USMER YOU EVER MET?

Well, if you don’t count USM-ers that we are related to ;) LOL It was almost a tie, because we met Jungabel and Little Jung for lunch, which was so great and they are both such sweet people. And within the same time-frame we met Dark Crow. Funny, I can’t remember who was first though. Dark Crow was so interesting and funny to chat with over dinner at Red Robin diner. I think it took us 30 minutes to stop talking so we could order, then it took another 2 hours to eat. Obviously we were WAY too chatty : ) LOL

WHICH ACTIVE USMer, HAS BEEN HERE THE LONGEST, BESIDES YOU GUYS?

TC , he’s been here forever, and we have had dinner with him a few times. He’s great.

(Yeh he is :D and so is he....and so is he...:P)


HOW HAS USM IMPACTED YOUR LIVES?

We learned that God is within all of us and that in order to love God you have see that. Otherwise you don't really know God well enough to truly love him.

GINGER, WHAT IS GEORGE’S FAVORITE HOME-COOKED MEAL?

Now what I make that we like are things like home made bread, lightly fried fresh pacific northwest oysters or scallops wrapped in bacon. Yum.

However, I love anything my hubby makes. He is very inventive when he cooks, and loves to block me out of the kitchen so he can serve everything in a nice presentation. The neatest part is that he cleans as he goes, so there is almost never a dirty dish, and the kitchen is spotless before I get to come in and dine. Oh, and his BBQ anything is fantastic !!!

GEORGE, WHAT IS GINGER'S FAVORITE FLOWER AND SCENT?

Ginger’s favorites flowers are the ones that bloom, she loves them all.

Ginger - Hey, I get to answer too. George has learned to love flowers through me I think : ) LOL. His favorite flowers are white carnations, and the ones that have a spicy scent.


DO YOU HAVE A JOINT PHILOSOPHY ON LIFE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE? WHAT IS IT?

Yes, in order to find God you have to look within yourself and others.


WHAT DO YOU ENJOY WATCHING TOGETHER ON TELEVISION?

Joan of Arcadia, interesting documentaries, Joey and old Friends episodes, Enterprise and sometimes old Star Trek episodes.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE MOVIES?

“Pay It Forward“, really touched our hearts because it feels so much like what USM-ers do everyday toward each other.

(I too thought about USM when I saw that movie the first time! How neat!)


WHAT ARE YOUR OCCUPATIONS/HOBBIES, G&G?


George - I’m a software developer by trade, but a inventor by desire.

Ginger - I like many types of needlework, painting with oils and watercolors, working with clay, jewelry creating and many other crafts. I want to learn how to ride horses better, and like hiking and biking.


WHAT ARE YOUR BIGGEST PET PEEVES? GEORGE? GINGER?

George - The hardest one for me to comprehend is that even though people know they need each other they hurt each other out of spite. Almost like they would rather say they were sorry then to not get their anger out.

Ginger - People that do not live up to their potential. We all have so much we can learn and help others with. So I guess that people that only think about themselves seem quite selfish, and that holds so much back from the world that they could share and experience.


WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVORS?

George - Rocky Road.. I seem to always pick that one anyway.

Ginger - LOL @ Rocky Road. Yep, if there is a slowest line at the store, George will find it.

GINGER, DO YOU HAVE AN EMBARRASSING STORY ABOUT GEORGE THAT YOU’RE WILLING TO SHARE? ;)

My funny stories about George would take up this whole interview and then some. He has always had the most marvelous sense of humor for joking around. From a banana peel on his head to cheer up someone’s day, to the time he let our young daughter and niece put a feather boa around his neck, a ladies hat on his head and make-up on his face.

Now, there is a picture of that event, but I am dead meat if I show it to anyone EVER !!!

Ginger - Awww, no fair ;) I get to answer this too. I get little chills at the back of my neck when George looks deeply into my eyes, and tells me that he loves me more than words can tell. He still takes my breath away daily !!!

(So romantic! Am I the only one seeing butterflies and hearing the sweet violin sighs? ;)


SHARE WITH US AN EXAMPLE OF HOW REWARDING HOSTING THIS SITE HAS BEEN.

We have seen many children grown up and we were there for them throughout their teenage years. Watching people become friends and even mates. Seeing how the relationships grow and become rich with love. Knowing that many people have realized that USM is a tool to be used to make friends and they make the most of it.

(Yep-yep!)


IF YOU HAD THE ABILITY TO CHANGE THE WORLD, HOW WOULD YOU GO ABOUT IT?

I would create the need for people to interact so they could get back to the days when they knew and depended upon each other. Where they could have a common bond and felt the love and friendship of community. I would encourage people to turn off the TV for most of the day and only read the funny papers. News has it’s place and entertainment shouldn’t be one of them. People are more isolated today than ever before. Most of us don’t know our neighbors and if we need something fixed we pay someone to come in and fix it. A person could die of loneliness in the middle of town.

(How right you are! How sad it is...and now, if you don't mind, I'm going to go crawl back into my hole ;) LOL
