What's WRONG With Me? -Lemon- :(

I feel like I'm losing control of my mind so to speak. When I read a book/magazine/article/anything really, I find myself drifting away I know I'm reading but by the time I'm done with a sentence I have no clue what I've just read. It's like my mind just zones out. The same goes with carring on a conversation with someone. I'm listening to the person, I can hear them talking but my mind leaves and by the time the person is done I don't have the slightest clue what they've just said. Then I have to have the person repeat it. This has been happening alot lately. Which I guess it would be consider as serious concentration problems. I have a very hard time focusing on something. I get distracted easily. I don't always finish what I start and not to mention I get VERY frustrated with myself. Plus my memory is somewhat bad. I'll forget what someone tells me like 15 mins after the fact. I think I might have ADD or ADHD. I looked them up online and I think I may have ADD. I told my neurologist that I thought I might have ADD and I told him how I felt and all he said was it's just 'a brain overload' okay I understand stress can cause people to feel this way but C'MON something is wrong and I need help. I want to strangle my mind. I'd like to make an appt. with my family doctor sometime soon but I wanted to know if any of YOU know someone who has felt like this or if you have ever felt like this.

Thank you for your time :) Lemon

Date: 12/20/2004 5:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 62100    Listen to your neurologist, brain overload can do ALOT, and losing your focus is minimal compared to some of it..bothersome, but it will fade. Just try to relax more..trust me.
Date: 12/20/2004 5:26:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    It could be that fact Arc Angel but I'm not so sure.
Date: 12/20/2004 5:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    I think I'm going to Smooth Criminal.
Date: 12/20/2004 5:30:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    Xylanthia, I thought so too that it was just a brain overload but now I'm thinking differently. I've been going through this awhile now. I know they say stress can cause this but it's getting to the point where it seems like something else may be going on. I don't think it's just stress.
Date: 12/20/2004 5:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 62100    Hmm, well, just to be safe it can't hurt to get a second opinion other than the one from your neurologist..and if worse comes to worse you have the right to insist on tests if you feel that strongly. Good luck!!
Date: 12/20/2004 5:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    Thank you Xylanthia! I'm kinda ticked at my neurologist tho I was trying to explain what I was going through and it was as if he didn't understand or was in a hurry. It seems nowadays most doctors want to get you in and out as fast as possible.
Date: 12/20/2004 5:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 51587    lol hey i'm the same way..i know how you feel....lol just ask Ben my boyfriend..he would tell you i am the same way..haha..it really sux. *huggs*
Date: 12/20/2004 6:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 42522    I have the same thing happen to me.
Date: 12/20/2004 6:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 62100    Yeah, docs do seem that way don't they???? It's crazy....
Date: 12/20/2004 7:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 36704    has this always happened to you, or is it something fairly new?
Date: 12/20/2004 7:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 24963    sounds like me, and my fiancee quite alot... we both have bi-polar disorder(different types though). Sounds similar to a manic episode. if bi-polar happens to be the case, be very careful of the meds, there are alot a person with a sensitive system can't take(makes you sick, feel worse, or can just about kill you). Its something to look into, its more common then most people think. Hope I could help some.
Date: 12/20/2004 8:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    Gee I dont know, but I'd have it checked out. I zone out alot, but if I'm interested in something at least I can concentrate on it. yours doesnt sound right.
Date: 12/20/2004 8:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 49539    Have you felt like this for a long time or is it just something that's been happening recently? If it just popped up, it's most likely caused by stress. But just to make sure, go see your doctor and find out.
Date: 12/20/2004 9:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 3836    Have you started taking any new medications? It could be a side effect.

Usually it seems that doctors like to perscribe medication even if it isn't needed. I'm on medicine for ADHD, though I'm not so sure that's actually my problem. Try a different physician. I can't imagine most doctors would disagree if you firmly believe yourself you have a disorder of that sort.

Date: 12/21/2004 12:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 28125    I've felt like this...I get distracted easily too...I have no idea why...I haven't ever been treated for ADD or ADHD...so I don't know the reasons behind this...oh well...it's just me I guess...anyways...Love ya Sis and Lots of Hugs...GBU...ICL~*~*~*~*~*~
Date: 12/21/2004 3:59:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    It does suck Dee Atleast I know I'm not alone.
Date: 12/21/2004 4:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 56489    I'm like that, LOL. But I believe it's brain overload, or you just ain't interested, I hate hearing the same stuff over and over agian, that's when my attention span drops.
Date: 12/21/2004 5:50:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    It's not fun Barbie
Date: 12/21/2004 5:52:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    Xylanthia, yep doctors only seem to care about money nowadays. It's hard to find a good one that still cares and takes the time to actually talk to you.
Date: 12/21/2004 5:53:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    Base, it's been happening for the past couple of years. I'd have trouble concentrating and focusing on my schoolwork and I'd get frustrated easily. Now it just seems I get distracted all the time. I don't know what it is.
Date: 12/21/2004 5:54:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    Thank you Ferret! I will remember that!
Date: 12/21/2004 5:56:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    I know firstborn, I zone out alot too. I wonder what causes that? I have to concentrate extremely hard if it's like a subject I'm not interested in.
Date: 12/21/2004 5:57:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    Offspring chicka, I've been like this for awhile, I think stress may be causing it more frequently but I'm not exactly sure.
Date: 12/21/2004 5:58:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    M&M, I have heard medications can do this to you but I've been on Elavil for my migraines for a long time now and I doubt it could be the medicine. I plan to see my family doctor about this and hopefully he can give me some answers.
Date: 12/21/2004 5:59:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    Princess Amy, It's frustrating isn't it? I hate being distracted so easily. It's nerve wracking.
Date: 12/21/2004 6:00:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    That sounds alot like me Aimless!
Date: 12/21/2004 8:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 36704    Usually in order to be diagnosed ADD/ADHD at your age the symptoms have to date back to early childhood. It's something you have your whole life. You said you take elavil for your headaches, I've taken elavil before and I could see it causing the symptoms that you're having lol. Did the symptoms start around the time you started taking it?
Date: 12/22/2004 3:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 3125    Hey Lemon..Maybe you should have your thyroids checked. I have thyroid problems and before I was diagnosed, I had the same problems. It was so very frustrating and at times embarrassing. I am now taking synthroid and it has helped a lot. ((Hugs)) to ya
Date: 1/1/2005 4:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 62146    I ahve been this way all my life. I was way at the bottom of the clas because of this. I am on medacation. but I have no named dissorder they put me on med due to depression, anxiety, obessive personalit traits, and lack of focus. all those things were enough reason to put me on med I advise you to see a doctor and let them give you a diognoises.
