International scams

Got this in an email

I would like to furnish herewith an international scam.

It goes like this :

2. On 14 Dec 2004, I received an e-mail from the Desk of the Vice President Lotteria Commission - one Mrs Beatrice Gomez. I noticed that their e-mail address was '[email protected]'.

At once I know that this is an international rip-off kind of thing. Anyway to continue the e-mail says that I was a winner in a lottery stake selected by computer ballot out of 25,000 e-mail address from Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and North America in an international programme sponsored by Coca-Cola and Vodafone.

The so-called draw was held on 20th Sept 2004 (and now they inform me only) I have to contact a Mr Fernando Lewis of Axa Seguros S.A. Madrid, Spain to claim the amount due to me which was EUR550,000 - wow the whole thing looks tempting. and the note said that the claim had to be made by 20th December 2004.

See the physcology of making you to rush things without having to analyse the facts!

3. Just to play their game a little I acted like the anxious fool eagerly seeking his new-found fortune and replied them on the same day expressing my sincere joy on the news blah blah blah.

The reply came very fast dated 14 Dec 2004. Apparently Mr Fernando Lewis though that he had a fool caught in their web. His mail instructed me to contact Mr Carlos Miguel of Banco Espana de Credito (Banco Banesto) for instructions on the transfer of the funds to me. There was a note that an approval code will be issued as my 'funds' are to be notarized and forwarded to the issuing bank. So I continued to play their game and replied blah blah blah.

4. On 15 Dec 2004, I received a fax one Carlos Miguel of Banco de Banesto. The logo in their fax shows Banco de Banesto (true or not I don't know) informing me that they are in possession of EUR 550,000 (but the spelling says five hundred and twenty five thousand euros only) to be transferred to me.

Futhermore the e-mail address was [email protected] - a little suspicious is'nt, usually banks will not be using yahoo e-mails. However there will be a transfer bank/ insurance of EUR850 to be paid first before the funds can be transferred to me as the funds are in a suspense escrow account.

Note : If the bank is holding your money, they can always deduct (or pay to someone) the amount as their charges and transefer the balance to you. At the same time I also received an e-mail from Carlos Miguel advising me to remit EUR850 to one William Brobbey with all the bank details and account number.

The beautiful part is that I do not know any Loteria Commission in Madrid nor Fernando Lewis of Alpha Securitas or Carlos Miguel of Banco de Banesto and all of a sudden these people come around telling you that you are into a fortune. And I was never informed of anything till 14 December 2004.

Too good to be true isnt it? All these things would look proper to a layman and if he is just greedy will quickly remit out the EUR850 (about 4,500 at current exchange) in order to get hold of the lottery funds and hey presto - somebody in Madrid gets a Christmas present.

5. Just to play their game a little longer I held on the reply for a day and sure enough today got another e-mail from them asking for the remittance of the EUR850 to ensure that the funds will transferred to me quickly.

Now its my turn - I replied them that they have got the wrong guy today. Please do not take people for fools. People do not suddenly transfer a handsome sum to somebody in the world out of the blues and asked them to look for their suckers somewhere else.

6. The above case is a good lesson to everyone - especially those who tend to be a little greedy otherwise you find yourselves poorer by a few thousand ringgit. these fellas in Nigeria, Argentina, Spain or elsewhere just think that we are bloody fools, shoot them an e-mail and here comes the money for Christmas. But sometimes it rather surprises me that there are such gullible fellas around, may be greedy too and I hope that with this circulation, be warned of such tactics from international scam syndicates.

Remember - people do not send you money all for nothing fro somewhere in the world.

How it changed my life:

feh the things people do...

I think from freelotto.com I never even bother to open the emails because I suspect that they are up to no good. I agree with you no one is going to give you money for no reason.
