Christmas Shopping is BLEAGH!......................................LSR

For the last couple of months Ad & I have been trawling the stores looking for Christmas gifts for the kids. We've managed so far to get them most of the things they asked for (within reason...I am NOT buying an 11 year old a Ferrari!!)....except for one vital item!

My youngest (who's 11) wanted an X-Box. Quite an expensive item which stupidly we left until payday at the end of November to look for...and then discover that we wouldn't be able to find! My sister is on the phone right now, phoning and phoning around all the likely stores in a 50 mile radius! NOWHERE seems to have one...in fact most of the big chains don't have one anywhere in the UK...argh! We even looked in Wales over the weekend!

This normally wouldn't be a problem, after all...most of the stores are going to have some delivered at the beginning of January so we'd just buy him a store voucher and let him go get it as soon as they are back in stock....BUT....because we haven't had an X-Box in the house before almost ALL of his other gifts are games etc to go with it (absolutely useless without the console!) When you're 11 that MATTERS and waiting to play with your new stuff isn't really an option!

We didn't even THINK to look in the tax-free store at the cross-channel train terminal a few days back when we went to France for the evening....despite buying my eldest's gift there! What a pair of complete idiots we are!

So...any ideas? Too late to buy it online even IF I could find somewhere that actually had one.

Whatever happened to a walnut and an orange in the bottom of your stocking and a good dinner to make your Christmas complete.....sigh.

LSR (feelin' frazzled!)..and looking forward to the day when I can go spend Christmas at THEIR houses and sit there being old and grouchy and complaining about under-done roast potatoes etc....LOL!

Date: 12/20/2004 7:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 28193    I'm glad I don't have any kids to buy for anymore. I remember, years ago, when I was trying to find the first Game Boy that came out. I got lucky on that one. The store called me back, because they had held some back for customers, and one of the customers told the store that they didn't want one. I got it for my son, and I used to play that thing, after he went to bed, before I wrapped it. LOL.

Date: 12/20/2004 8:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 30747    Oh my gosh I've had Christmas's like this. I remember the year I had everybody I know looking for a color gameboy and how awful I felt that I couldn't find one in time for Christmas day. The worst part about it was all his friends parents had the forthought to shop early and they got theirs. Not me! I felt like the worlds worst mom and I still get anxiety over it. I'm okay this year though. I finished my shopping a month ago. It's all wrapped and waiting to go. Now, what bothers me is how my sons "list" changes day to day and I'm second guessing what I bought him. Christmas is out of hand and I'm guilty of comercializing it as much as the next mom. I really hope you get that X-box LSR, but I'm sorry...I'm not giving mine up. Have a great Christmas.
Date: 12/20/2004 8:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 30747    Oh good she found one. *whew* By the way, could you explain "trawling" to me please? Thanks
Date: 12/20/2004 9:25:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 46527    'Trawling' is a fishing term commonly used in the UK to describe searching through a lot of things/places to find just one item.
Date: 12/20/2004 9:43:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 46527    Thank you for all your kind comments, it was a VERY stressful moment when we realised we coudn't get one....LOL! Thank goodness for ASDA!
