Hey USM, protect your computers alright?

There are so many problems I see coming into the computer shop that can be mostly prevented.. there is not a 100% fix or a program that finds all threats. Like I know a lot of you use AVG virus protection because it is free. Yes that is better than nothing, it works, but hey it doesnt work fantastic.. today I was working on a computer with an updated AVG and McAfee found 157 more infected files from like 5 different virus's on it when I removed the drive and scanned it... so if you can afford something, I would get something better. Like McAfee anti-virus or even Norton... I have seen Norton 2004 and 2005 have many conflicts with programs though, but if it works for you, then keep using it. Mcafee doesnt have those conflicts so if your looking for something new, thats what I use. Then there are people that say they are fine and never have problems, ah yes.. I have found Keyloggers and virus's on there computers that you wouldnt notice running and you wouldnt want them on there. Now for Spyware, Malware and all that. That seems to be worse than virus's lately. I see computers not turning on and just running soooo slow. Ad-Aware SE is good and its free... go get that here .. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html update it and run it once a week or every few days. Spybot 1.3 also works great, but when you install that , make sure you dont select tea-timer proctection.. that can mess up your system. You can get that here .. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html do the same as with Ad-Aware SE when running it. Then the best thing I have found for spyware protection is CounterSpy ... get it here.. http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/evaluation/410/counterspy.exe .. that link will start to download it. It is made by sunbeltsoftware, they made PestPatrol. You get it free for about a month to try it out, but its fully functioned and it runs like antivirus software watching your system, then it is $20 to purchase. But even using it free it can clean a lot off. I would say this has found something pretty disturbing on at least 75% of computers I have ran it on. So yes, just watching out for my USM friends on here. A lot of problems can be prevented and fixed, not always, but you can only do what you can. So to finish off I run Ad-Aware SE, CounterSpy, and McAfee. Take care guys! -Mike- GM?

Date: 12/9/2004 3:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 53961    I have SPYBOT on all the time, run Adaware once a week, have AVG running 24/7 and have it set to scan every morning at 5 a.m. I got hit with something a few weeks ago that wiped out all my programs. I couldn't even access the internet to download IE. Well, I found a link in a file to IE and was able to get on and download Panda until I got my password for AVG. It found 3 trojans.
