I believe winter break/end of semester may have it's roots in Pagan traditions. Does anyone know for sure? |

One year ( when they still allowed it back in oh 2000) they had Santa Claus come to the school to do pictures, one parent out of the whole school told Santa to hit the bricks and she sat in his chair and had the kid on her lap with her own mother standing next to the chair.. Santa stood off to the side and waited for his chair back. |

I know not everyone celebrates Christmas or deals with Santa, but the day was called "Picture Day with Santa" I think she should have just gone down to Walmart and had a holiday photo special done. |

I bet that was the last time they had a photo day with Santa. For my oldest daughter who is 15 I believe she stopped having christmas parties some where around 5th grade. My 6 year old didn't have anything last year..at least this year they are celebrating something, although they are still getting it wrong. By pretending they are celebrating the end of the semester and beginning of winter break is silly. |

According to this site http://www.religioustolerance.org/winter_solstice.htm "neo pagans" celebrate the winter solstice. Last night I was up late helping my brothers paint dodecahedrons for their 3D geometry Christmas ornament project, so I guess their teacher doesn't care if anyone gets upset over celebrating Christmas. But I doubt anyone would, I think if someone threw a fit over it they'd be chased out of town LOL. |

The last time they did a Pollyanna was maybe 2nd grade.. I remember having Pollyanna all the way until 8th grade and even in Highschool they let us send candy canes to each other in class. |

The world is going crazy. I told you about Aly's "Halloween Math Party" right, with the math that had pumpkins and bats in the word problems. Woo boy. I'm sure they'll have something similar for Christmas. Ooops I mean winter break. |

My son broght home a notice that they would be studing the December holidays around the world. For America they pick Quanzza. Um ok. He came home and told me about Hanukkah and how a boy in his class was Jewish. Then he started asking questions so I tried to explain that Christians broke off from the Jewish religion after Jesus came and that Jewish people don't beleive Jesus was the son of God. Opps big mistake!! Then he went into a fit because he knows that (according to Christianity) that to go to heaven you must beleive in Jesus as the son of God. He said he is going to go to school and tell this boy about Jesus so he doesn't go to hell (his words). I then explained That while what we beleive is this they beleive that and that they will go to heaven. He still insisted. So I sit here and wait for a phone call from the school. I explained to him that we do not push what we beleive on other people but he got sad and said he didn't want his friend to go to hell. I should have just kept my mouth shut. Anyways, what they are doing is a good idea cause then they learn about all the holidays in Decmeber and have a party to clelbrate all of them at the end. |
