SUMMER - I told you what I meant when I said this wasn't permanent and you cried and you cried and claimed that you died, that I had killed something inside. It's not that I don't care it's just better when you're not there. I tried and tried for you I lied to tell you that things were alright but the stars don't shine on a cloudy night and there's just no time anymore.
Shuffle.
FALL - You must be tired, you've been sleeping so long. I threw rocks at your window and sang you a song in the cold autumn night with smoke on the air. It tells you someone is warm, but you know not where. You opened your window and peered down at me, my white eyes glowing over a grassy sea and it's dark and it's cold and we're too young to know that soon enough we'll be old.
Shuffle.
SPRING - The waves come in over depthless sand. I'm remembering your face, tracing the lines of your hand in the ride of a beach, where I come every year but usually you're also here. The sky's shining brightly on streets filled with cars, but you're red sedan is so very far they say time heals one's pain, and I guess that's true, but it's the only good thing that time'll ever do. It was the clock that passed seconds, like sand through a glass, when I held you close on the freshly cut grass, and whistled as our timer ran down.
Shuffle. Take one card out.
WINTER - This is winter and it kills me every year. I swear I'm slowly dying but I go without fear. December does drain me, the colours they fade, I remember them once but now everything's gray. It's a pitiful way to start a new year with the same old sickness stinging and clear. When I run I am graceful like a deer runs on snow, with a footfall so soft you'd never know, save the tracks on your lawn melting slowly but surely. Yet, I am no faun I am fast and I run.
