Squirrels 2 Kethria 1 ~Keth~

WHen I was little I loved to watch squirrels frisking around the yard. My dad said when I got my own place I would know better. Ha ha ha.

So far the adorable tree rodents have eaten more than 50 flower bulbs, destroyed 2 (count em 2) bird feeders and done a number on the window screens.

I put the third feeder out (I'm a glutton for punishment I guess), and instead of the nylon cord replaced it with a dog tag chain (they had chewed through the cord before)

This worked well. But THEN they decided to chew the railings off of the bird feeder so the birds couldn't perch.

I salvaged the rails from a mostly broken one, and wired them back on. Then I decided it was time to get serious.

I took a cotton swab and gently painted the plastic parts with jalapeno pepper juice. This morning I saw the results of my work. Mr. Squirrel grabbed the railing and took a big bite. You could see smoke coming out of his furry little ears.

He let go of the feeder, and ran up a tree where he sat staring at the feeder, you could tell he was asking himself what the heck happened.

A few minutes later he decided to try again. He had the same results and I think my feeder is now safe.

BTW I have a squirrel feeder, which they ignore...

Heh heh heh. I hope this solves the problem.

Date: 12/8/2004 6:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 62881    That's funny! We raised chickens when I was little. Mama let them run free cause dogs would dig their way into the pen and kill them. So we would scatter chicken feed out in the yard so they could eat. The squirrels came down from the trees and ate their share and then some. (As a matter of fact, some possums did, too!) Needless to say we had the healthiest squirrels on the street!...Green Eyed Froggy
