cocoa palms? that's not a relative of the cocoa that chocolate comes from, is it? I know cocoa mulch can be dangeroous for dogs and cats... maybe she doesn't like the trees because she knows they could be bad for her? |

They just have to be patient if they are going to get her to stop doing that. They just need to be consistent with her. Either that or fence it off where she can't get to it. |

Try bitter apple spray, cayenne pepper or hotsauce when she grabs it will taste bad to her so she'll stop. Hugs&Cookies |

If possible do not leave her outback unsupervised, if that is a no go then maybe some kind of fencing that goes around and possibly over the plants will do.. nothing sharp etc that the dog can get cut on. Or maybe they can spray something on the plants that is safe for the dog and plant but with a smell that will keep the dog clear, maybe bitter apple spray.. I wish them luck ! |

nope, nothing to do with coca Mercury, they are just a sun loving version of normal palms. They checked out all the plants before they planted them to ensure they were 'dog friendly' .... though they wont hurt her, she isnt impressed with them, lol! |

Thanks Crooked Halo, that sounds like the sort of solution that they would be looking for. They dont want to ban her from being outside because she loves it out doors and they dont want to fence off the area because it looks ugly and would pretty much defeat the purpose of having a nice garden. Thanks everyone for you ideas, i'll be sure to pass them on, i know my friends will be appreciative .... and so will the dog ... shes a beautiful thing, just going through a 'naughty' stage at the moment it seems |

1st of all, smacking the dog and'showing' her the palm both mean nothing to her. Punishment needs to be inforced the moment the act is being committed. There should be a firm no, but of course that doesnt always work. Take a plastic pop bottle, fill it with coins, and whenever the dog approaches the cocoa bush, shake the can and startle her. After a bit, she should stay away from them plant. Good luck |
