*~* Giving Christmas a Little Different this Year - How About You? *~* Hey,Hey,Paula

I have decided this year, that since finances are a bit strained, that I would give special, sentimental items that I have to those family and friends near and dear to my heart. I was talking to my daughter and I said, "You know, I have some things that are special to me, like my nativities that I would like to share. This year I decided to leave them up all year so I could enjoy them all the time, instead of just during the month of December. I have now enjoyed them and since my health has become as issue, I have found that I need to cut down on the need to dust and other necessary house and yard work as much as possible.

I thought it would be nice to be able to give what I want to these special people, while I'm still around to see their smiles, versus having the girls have to come in, after I head off for my next journey of Heavenly places, and sort through my stuff.

Recently, while visiting my sister, she gave me some things that she had stored from mom and dad. One of them was a pretty white crocheted dress that I am wearing in my baby picture. I thought I might make it into a shadow box and give it to someone.

I have started a cookbook and just maybe this year I'll get it done. Well, I can dream on that one. I spend so much time on my genealogy, that its' completion has taken a back seat to climbing the family trees.

So, anyway, how about you all? Are you doing things a little bit different this year? Are you opting for a sentimental gift giving, a gift card or perhaps the gift of service? I am sure all would be welcomed with smiles and appreciation.

Let me be the first to wish you all, "Happy Holidays!"

My Gift to You:

Love, {{{Hugs}}} and Butterfly Kisses... Eternally ;)

Date: 11/25/2004 6:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 62310    I'm getting my mom a silver tree that has little picture frames hanging off of it. I'm going to put my daughter's picture in it and the other frames are for my two nephews. I'm also making a photo album for my best friend. The rest of the gifts aren't sentimental. They're mostly educational toys for the baby and a game for my husband.
Date: 11/25/2004 7:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 4144    i really like your idea but i will be doing the meaningless gift giving again this year. i have made some changes though. since i an short one grandmother this year, my last living one will get double! that means whatever she wants she gets. i know i will be able to afford it because she is a cheap old broad and meaner than a snake!!! i seriously think she wants a new tater bin. one that sets up a little higher than the one she has. and as far as everybody else goes (aunts, uncles and cousins that you "have" to buy for) they are getting very little this year. i don't mean to sound like scrooge but it gets a little nuts around here at Christmas. too many people going overboard on useless stuff.

Date: 11/25/2004 8:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    Paula, this is such a wonderful and thoughtful post. I had some pictures of my Great Grandparents with my Mother when she was about 12 and gave copies to my girls. They were so happy. I had them framed and gave them as special gifts, as I feel time slips by and I'm trying to leave them as much family as I can. I've compiled volummes of family history and spent years reserching my family, finally having some of history published and bound into books that I give. I wanted my grandchildren and theirs to have something special.
Date: 11/25/2004 8:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 53054    this is a really nice post, i am sure that they will treasure the gifts a lot more...this year i am thinking about putting a scrap book together for my friend who i wont see again.;..since i am in another country...and giving it to him for xmas...he is such a good friend. i will probably but some pictures in it, and write some stuff in it...to make it really personal...during the year i try to make other people feel special by giving them little thank you cards, or sending flowers to their house, just to tell them that they are appri iated...i like doing things like that! *hugz*
Date: 11/26/2004 3:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 58308    That's a really good idea, Paula. I'm not sure what we'll do for the little ones, but the big ones are getting crafty presents. Gary's employee's are getting Gifts From a Jar, as are the secretaries and CSR's in the front office. Happy Holidays to you, too!!
Date: 11/26/2004 4:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    that's a great idea! Some of my most treasured possessions are things that have been passed around the family.... my most favorite are the oil portraits of my great grandparents that I somehow managed to acquire This year I'm concentrating on giving everyone the gift of getting to know themselves better... I'm creating a series of personalized handmade journals for everyone on my list. (Yeah, I'm broke, too!)
