Is your voting record based on political affiliation alone? TAC

I am asking this question for a good reason. You see, when I was 18 and registered to vote for the first time, I knew very little about politics...Other than what my dad had "taught" me. This election year more than any other has caused me to further investigate the various political parties. Strangely enough, I lean more toward libertarianism but also teeter on the centrist (middle ground) side, not democratic at all. Without discussing my preference for President in this election, I am veering away from the whole democratic/republican thing and am going on personal choice. Of course, the last election I voted against the democratic party (dad could have shot me)lol. This year, I am trying to steer clear of the affiliation and vote on representation of issues.

BTW, I wanted to add that I didn't post this with the intention of hooking anyone into debating who we should be voting for. I am honestly interested in seeing how many others have veered (sp?) away from voting based solely on their political affiliation.

Date: 10/20/2004 11:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 17081    I was for Clinton. Now I am for Bush. It's not about democrat/republican for me. It's just that I KNOW Bush is the better man.
Date: 10/20/2004 11:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 62901    I definately agree. You know it's funny you brought this up... because I was just thinking this morning.... do I even know the exact definition of Republican or Democrat????? I mean, yea, of course I have an idea... but what it EXACTLY means??? But I am for Bush, not because he is Republican... not because we have the same religous beliefs.... it's because I think he is the better man... along with a lot of other reasons. ***Dolphin Glitz***
Date: 10/20/2004 11:58:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    thanks for the replies ya'll. I see that we have something in common. lol. Except for the whole Bush thing. This has been the most confusing election season for me though.
Date: 10/20/2004 12:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 2030    I'm a registered Libertarian but a person has to take reality into consideration also. The only thing I can say is that I disagree with almost every single part of the Democratic platform, you can not put the government in control of every aspect of life. Because A. Someone somewhere has to foot the bill for all that stuff. and B. since when has the government ever done something in an efficient and sensible manner? Look at the original constitution and bill of rights, the foundation on which this great land was built. Then look at what party or person best represents those guidelines, you'll find it to be the Libertarians.
Date: 10/20/2004 12:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 53284    I try to choose who I think would be best for the job. I don't vote the party line.
Date: 10/20/2004 12:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 17081    I know alot of Democrats that are for Bush. Some of these people are really deep into politics.
Date: 10/20/2004 12:10:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    I agree B. Which is why I tend to be leaning toward the libertarian party. Unfortunately there isn't a libertarian involved in the so-called debates. Basically what I'm saying in this post is that I am personally researching the issues this time rather than voting because I like one of the candidates better or that I am registered as a democrat. Again, this is the most confusing election in history for me. My brain hurts. lol Thanks for the always insightful reply B.
Date: 10/20/2004 12:10:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Thanks WB, I agree.
Date: 10/20/2004 12:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    I'm regeristered Independent so yeah I vote for who I think can get the job done....not by party.
Date: 10/20/2004 12:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 25183    I am resgistered as a Democrat, and I will be voting for Kerry. I would vote Republican though if I feel that candidate would be better.
Date: 10/20/2004 12:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 23610    I was a Republican...now am Democrat. However, I lean more towards the Libertarian party. I vote for the person I believe is the best candidate. Because many of the people I know, love and respect have such varying views...I try to listen to all sides and hear the reasoning. In the end...I go with the candidate that makes the best sense to me.
Date: 10/20/2004 1:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 52155    Ditto to what Becky Dewdrop said.
Date: 10/20/2004 1:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 13119    Up here I vote for the person not the party
Date: 10/20/2004 1:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 43807    I use to be republican. However, i had to register in the county i go to school at, so i changed and now i am Independent. Yay. For me. No one influenced me this time, no brainwashing, no one telling me who to vote for. I am free!!! I am making my choices this year base on what I feel is right,( by way of research on the partys) no party line this time.
Date: 10/20/2004 3:14:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Wow, thanks for the replies ya'll. I just wanted to pop back in and check the post and was glad to see that there are so many people out there that vote on their view of the issues, rather than their political affiliation.
Date: 10/20/2004 4:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 47296    I was a registered Republican, but have since reregistered as an Independent. I refuse to vote for any party platform, and never vote a straight ticket.
Date: 10/20/2004 7:15:00 PM  ( Admin-DNL )   I orignally registered as a Democrat, but after a month I changed to green party. I think I belong more to this party then Democrats. Between Dems and Reps I tend to agree with the Dems more, but I am willing and open to vote for a Republican if I think they will do a better job then the Democrat.
Date: 10/20/2004 8:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 34487    I'm don't vote in favor of either party...I vote for the best person for office. I base it on character, ability to lead, past voting record, policies, ability to protect and respond accordingly in times of war or hardship and lastly, their record for being humane, moral and LOYAL. With all this said...I won't be voting for Kerry.
Date: 10/21/2004 11:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 13283    I used to strictly vote democrat . I voted for the Bushes becasue they were from Texas (adopted state ) . I wish more politicians had stronger moral values . I think i will stop voting in the future . I am voting for Kerry coz he is Catholic just like me . Razzy aka
