In Australia, we called a period a "full stop". When i moved to the US everyone thought it was quite funny when i would exclaim something like "Okay! Conversation is over! Full Stop!" And they'd be like... huh? lol. |

In the UK it's a full stop too, a period is either a length of time or a woman's monthly 'visitor'. |

Yup, it's a full stop in Ireland too. I read a story recentl where a chinese man wanted to name his son "@" but the government wouldn;t let him because it could not be translated into Chinese |

you're right. i think some of us like to abbriviate. (it's difficult right now to not put web talk in this message! :-P) i think you should start a whole new thing. when you say a website now, say 'period' instead of 'dot'. maybe you could get everybody to do it! that'd be cool. many thanks for bringing this up and letting my imagination run wild. ~*Daydreaming Dragon*~ |

I'll agree, you are correct. Although it is incorrect use, I prefer dot. Period is just too long. Dot, is one syllable, period, is three. I guess I'm just lazy! |

It is a period but it's much easier and quicker to just say "dot" when it comes to telling someone a web address verbally. - |

Yes it is easier to say dot and itdoes *look* like one. Also I think some people are uncomfortable to say period as it is a woman's monthly. Not all people but it can be a bit uncomfortable. Ghost-Chick |

I guess saying "dot" is a way to save time...haha, it's the lazy person way and I'm definitely one to do this; however, you are 100% correct. |

I agree with Ghost Chick on that one...and it DOES take more time to say "period" when "dot" suffices and we all know what we're talking about. I don't know why it's a big deal, tho, some ppl do call the asterisk a star and we all know what they mean. |
