APPLE CIDER AND WOOLY BEARS

APPLE CIDER AND WOOLY BEARS

Apple cider and wooly bears
Wood smoke and frozen earth lacing the air
Apple cheeked children and shiny round fruit
Orchard’s bounty from tree and root
A chill to taste and sweet to smell
A small caterpillar, furred orange and black, thick stripes tell
If winter’s fated to be long and hard or short and mild
An infant Isabella moth crawls tickling the palm of a child

*Wooly bears are the caterpillars of the Isabella Moth. The caterpillars have thick orange and black stripes. The thickness of the stripes is supposed to predict how bad winter is supposed to be.
