Work Experience March 2003 – Current Thanet College – Recreation and Leisure Assistant

I assist with the day-to-day running and supervision of the College’s busy Student Centre, the planning and running of the Induction Fair held each September, the administration for all of the College sports teams, as well as assisting with the College Plus Enrichment Programme. My other roles include organising, advertising and selling outside activities and competitions to the students throughout the year, such as pool competitions, karaoke, paintballing and ice-skating. I am also the NUS (National Union of Students) Liaison Officer for the College. Additionally, I have helped cover other areas within Student Services, such as the reception area where I take calls and book appointments for the Welfare and Careers departments.

November 2002 – May 2003 Sterling Investments Ltd – Telesales Executive I called potential customers in West Kent/London, advertising the company and selling professional wills. I also took part in meetings on how to improve the script, and how to enhance the teams’ efforts, as well as meetings on the way the company was organised. I was promoted to closing the calls, which involved finalising the deal and arranging the times for the will writers to visit them.

This was a two-week work placement as part of my National Diploma in Computing course at Thanet College. It involved taking calls and replying to students’ emails on problems with their computers. Other duties included logging calls and being involved in maintaining, repairing and installing computers around the campus, along with general administration duties.

I have good office skills, particularly in the area of Microsoft Office applications and keyboard skills, etc. I also have good interpersonal skills, and am a confident and effective communicator in all areas, from written to face-to-face. My communication skills only enhance my ability to provide high levels of customer service. Additionally, I am a quick learner and a hands-on worker. I have a good eye for detail, and can work under pressure to meet deadlines, always working to a high standard.

Interests and Hobbies My interests and hobbies include playing sports such as football, tennis, pool and darts. I enjoy reading fiction books, and listening to music. I also like to participate in charity events within my local community and through the events I organise through Thanet College. Other interests involve using computers and the Internet, and learning new things.
