Delete = childish...... in my opinion! Lizard-1

I have seen a lot of the debate topics here today - and then I have seen a lot of discussions on other debatable topics.... and I can see where most people feel very passionate about what they beleive is right - !! We all have a right to voice our opinion, but what we don't have is the right to judge others based on thier opinion. I am not pointing fingers by any means. I just want to say that if you want someone to listen to you than you must respect them! No matter what someone else feels is right, or wrong, it doesn't make your opinion any less important and people should have every right to voice thier opinion on your post! If you don't want thier opinion, or you don't think that thier opinion is what you want to hear than maybe you shouldn't ask people to voice thier opinions! If someone takes the time to read your post - and then take the time to reply, nothing is more upsetting then them having thier reply deleted for no other reason than they disagreed with the author!

Am I wrong for feeling this way???

Am I wrong to think that deleting someones reply is wrong simply because you don't agree or they go against what you say!

I for one have NEVER deleted someones opinion, or reply to my post no matter how much I disagree with what they say.... luckily enough for me, no one has ever been rude, or disrespectful, so I can truthfully say I have NEVER deleted someones reply from one of my post!

It makes me very angry to go to a post and hear that people replies were deleted simply because the AUTHOR of the post disagreed with them! I can understand the admins deleting rude or offensive comments, but to simply just delete someones comment is just absurd and childish to me!

I haven't been here for very long, and I guess this is just a pet peeve of mine! Sorry for the rant, but MAN it really bugs me!

Date: 10/12/2004 11:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 5229    Good post, nice reminder
Date: 10/12/2004 11:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 49348    lol i see that happin all the time, then i see some one make a post about it. There is a delet button people may use it as they see fit. But yes i do agree, unless there is a decent reason to delet replys, you shouldnt.
Date: 10/12/2004 11:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 20956    i agree - everyone has a right to voice their opinion, and by deleting peoples replies you dont agree with is crazy ... makes it all very one sided and biased, good post
Date: 10/12/2004 11:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 3648    Yes, everyone has a right to voice their opinion as they see fit...If you post you should expect people to give you a opinion on what you have posted in your story...If a person wishes not hear/see opinions that don't agree with theirs then maybe they should not post to begin with...In this world nothing is one sided really...we all see things differently...but to delete simply because one disagrees with you is wrong...Honestly I have learned a lot from the members of usm.....seen all sides of debates etc...if I was only allowed to see one side then I've learned nothing and I would walk away without seeing the pros and cons ....and that in itself is a waste...
Date: 10/12/2004 11:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 3648    Plus it would be boring lol....I like excitement ;0)
Date: 10/13/2004 12:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 62793    On the other hand...if the author chooses to delete someone's comments...isn't that their way of expressing their opinion as well? I wouldn't do it, but then I don't care (not meant offensively) enough about anyone's opinion to delete it just because I didn't agree.
Date: 10/13/2004 4:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 55386    It is childish....I don't see the point in deleting a reply unless it was really offensive towards me, or maybe someone else. Just deleting them because you don't like them is just crazy.
Date: 10/13/2004 5:29:00 AM  From Authorid: 47218    No, deleting someone's opinion because it contradicts yours isn't a way of expressing your opinion. That would be your reply to the opinion that you disagree with. The deletion is a meagre means of controlling the argument so that it goes your way. No, I don't think that deleting someone's opinion just because you disagree with it is right. If you don't want other people's opinions, then don't post. On the other hand, people have to be courteous in their replies. I suppose it goes both ways.
Date: 10/13/2004 5:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 62146    I argrue with you acctaully it is funny we all fight liek mad when it comes to opinyions. I am not christian but I still get mad when i hear people bag out christianity because it is their belife just because I do not belive it dose not mean no one else can. I guess one way to sort out the probble is this if you do not like what someone wroite then do not look at it. just egnore it so long as it will not effect other people or their lives then egnore it.
Date: 10/13/2004 5:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 2030    It's exactly why some people put their posts in discussion rather than debate (where comments can't be deleted). That way they can take the cowardly way out and just delete what they can't defend.
Date: 10/13/2004 6:08:00 AM  From Authorid: 25390    I agree with you. I have only ever used the delete button if something is double posted or if it is offensive. I think the last time I did it for that reason was over 2 years ago. If you post something controversial, you should expect controversy...
Date: 10/13/2004 7:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 52155    BCAR nailed it.
Date: 10/13/2004 8:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 29928    Great post Lizard and I agree. I don't thin...no I know, I have never deleted any comment because I didn't agree with it...that is insane. If you're going to do that..why bother post anything in debate?
Date: 10/13/2004 10:22:00 AM  From Authorid: 46527    Personally I have only ever deleted a reply that would have got the whole post deleted had I left it.
Date: 10/13/2004 10:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 3263    I just wanted to add that the authors arent the only ones who can or do delete comments; admins do also.
Date: 10/13/2004 11:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 26363    The only comments I have ever deleted were way back when anon's were able to comment...some of their comments were pretty vulger. I agree with you 100%! If you don't want the opinion then don't ask for it.
Date: 10/13/2004 8:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 34487    I totally AGREE.
Date: 10/13/2004 8:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 62915    Yea I think the whole point is to look at things from another point of view. Why delete something just because you don't agree with it? Ghost-Chick
