I have mine pierced, and while i'm not pregnant I know FOR SURE that it will cause no problems. Thats absolutely ridiculous. Oh, and mine also got infected but not too badly. Go to a doctors office to get it done.. its much cleaner there and less problems |

Hmmm..I have never heard of that one. I think belly button rings are cute, but I have never gotton one myself just for the fact that if I had a tight shirt on, and it didnt show my belly, the ring would stick out. That would drive me crazy. But alsoI if I was pregnant I would definatly take it out cause it would be very unattractive in my opinion. You know having a beer gut and all lol. |

It doesn't cause problems with a baby until your belly starts gettin' big when you're pregnant then it may not even then. And if you have it profesionally done, hardly ever will it get infected. I got mine done when I was 16. I DID lose alot of blood because a piece of fat got strung around my ring and when I moved it would squirt blood. I soaked through a wad of napkins and paper towels on to my shirt...it was bad but my mom pulled it off with tweezers (painful) and it never got infected. Good luck! |

My dad was my prob. He figured I would wear belly shirts and flaunt it but I haven't shown anyone but family and my bf. And a couple close friends. I just like it. It's like...a part of me now! Hehe. |

Maybe you could compromise with your parents, and ask them if you could do it for your 16th birthday. You're still quite young, give it time...when I was about 15-16, I swore I was going to get a tatoo the second I turned 18. well, I'm 19 going on 20 and have yet to get one! lol, granted that's a bit more permenant...I did, however, get my belly button pierced a month after my 18th birthday. I accidently let it close up almost a year later, and then I got it redone in mid-September. So good luck! :-) |

Any piercing is going to get infected if it's not cleaned enough or if it's overcleaned... you should say the same thing if your mum has her ears pierced. But I don't think it would have any damage on pregnancy... if you get it done though, make sure it's done by a professional... doctors aren't qualified to do piercings or tattoos... think of it this way... would you go to a body piercer if you needed medication for a headache? Sure, the doctors sterilise everything... but body piercers do it the same way. Sorry to waffle on... I just feel awkward about that stuff. Anyway, good luck! |

I had mine done when I was 13 and it only became infected at the beginning but I think it was part of the healing process. No problems since and I am now 18. As for the pregnency bit it is ridiculous. The only problem you may have is the hole will stretch and you may need to buy a pregnecy belly button ring. My sister in law has had 2 children and hasn't touch her ring since the day she got it and her children are fine. ANother myth I heard is that it will poion the baby's food supply!!! The uter rot that is out there!! Ghost-Chick |

First of all, if your mom says wait until your 18, then wait. My parents are the same way (although I did go behind their backs and get my nips pierced). And it doesn't cause any problems with the actual fetus. The only problem with navel piercings and pregnancies are when the stomach starts to get larger, the ring might tear the skin, but you can take fishing line and replace the barbell with it and once you've had a child return the barbell. |

My mom is the exact opposite. She actually persuaded me to get mine pierced when I was 10. I got it pierced and it hasn't been trouble at all. That birth defect myth is just plain silly. If your going to get pregnant, yeah you have to take the belly button ring out, but you can get it pierced again after the birth but if there is a birth defect, it wasn't caused by the belly button ring, thats for sure. |

Plus, if you dont take care of your belly button ring, it WILL get infected, just like all piercings. |

Parents are generally misinformed about piercings. Navel piercings are relatively painless and not as likely to get infected as say, a tongue or lip piercing. If they do get infected, you don't have to take them out.. just use ointment. I've have mine for 7 years, and it became infected ONCE back a few months after I got it.. it went away with ointment after like 2 days.. it gets even more irritated if you take it out. Plus, it's a harmless piercing.. it's becoming as socially accepted as ears nowadays. |
