HI everyone,
It's been so long since I've posted so I thought I tell a little story about the ghost hunting tour I went on last night.
OK, now many of you fellow ghost enthusiasts know who Richard Senate is. He has been ghost hunting and writing books for 23 years. He taught for a while at the Ventura college but I never had a chance to take any of his classes(too bad). I have some of his books and like them very much so I knew I'd like his tours.
Anyway, Richard also gives tours and I finally have been able to go on one! He lives in Ventura, CA and I moved away before going on any of his tours and we FINALLY moved back here in Jan, '03. But with two very young children, I just couldn't find any time to take any of Richard's tours.
So, I was really glad to take the tour with my mom-in-law.
Richard told us lots of really interesting history and we stood in the old women's jail at one point. No cells or anything left....it was basically a storage room now.
Anyway, Richard led us to an elevator and told us that the ghost that inhabits it must not like women. He said that whenever a woman gets on, it ALWAYS goes to the third floor, the old jail, no matter what button is pushed. No one can find anything wrong with it.
It won't trap anyone or anything like that...it just won't allow women to go to any other floor. So, Richard asked if anyone wanted to go on and I and a bunch of other women gleefully volunteered. Now, I admit I would NEVER have gotten on by myself. My enthusiam was fueled by so many others wanting to too.
So, we got on and Richard said he'd meet us on the first floor. We got on and I had the sudden feeling we were in the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. Everyone agreed. (When you first get on that ride, you get closed up in an elevator). We first pushed the 2nd floor button to see what would happen. We thought it would just go to the 2nd floor but not open the doors. Well...it let us get to the second floor and opened the doors. It was a little disappointing and a relief at the same time.
We then pushed the button for the 1st floor and it let us off just fine! It was spooky down there as we got there before the rest of the tour but still, it was a bit disappointing. I just hear so many stories about people challenging ghosts and the ghosts do something to well..make you show some respect! LOL!!! We figured that if there was a ghost, it's not always around.
I think the ghost is Ma Duncan. She hangs out there and Richard told stories about her. The abrigded version is she felt no one would ever be good enough for HER son and when he finally married, she had her daughter in law killed. Anyway, there is a book about her as there is way too much history in that story for me to post.
But I think it's her even though a few other ghosts haunt City Hall, because I think she's held on to those old feelings about seeing other women as a threat.
So, it wasn't a very scary night but lots of FUN. In fact the oddest thing we saw that night was a very funny looking little man sitting parked in his car. I almost thought he as a ghost because he looked so weird. Not scary....he looked so much like a cute little cartoon character, he didn't look real at all!! LOl... How it changed my life:It didn't other than the fact that I finally got to gon on Richard Senate's tour.
