Apparently God is trying to tell me to have a baby...*DizzyME*

I am so annoyed.

This is a long story but I have GOT to get this off my chest.

A couple weeks ago I went to the health clinic in town to get my yearly exam to renew my birth control pill prescription. The nurse tried to talk me into getting the depo shot. I told them I was considering it but wasn't sure. At that time, they would not give me the shot or the pills, because they said I had to get my cholestrol checked first.

I went back Tuesday to get it checked. They had told the previous week that I would be able to either get the pills or the shot that day. When I got there, they weighed me, took my blood pressue, took some blood, then started talking to me about the depo shot. I told them I had decided not to get it. The woman then informed me that the nurse practitioner had only written down that they could give me the shot, therefore she could not give me the pills that day, I would have to come back. That in itself annoyed me. They then told me I would have to schedule another appointment to go in to see her. BUT they would not be able to work me in until the end of the month. I asked them what I was supposed to do until then, seeing as how I took my last pill Sunday. The woman said "You'll just have to use condoms I guess". WHAT??? Does she not realize that this totally throws off everything? It's not just about sex, you aren't supposed to stop the pill then start up again!

Well, I call the nurse practitioner the next day, hoping she can just give them permission to give me the pills Friday (today). At that time she tells me she cannot do that, and that I must come back to see her so they can take my blood pressue and weigh me. AGAIN. Even though they've already done it TWICE. She told me if I didn't like the precedure that I should call Ernie Fletcher and complain. (He is the governor of KY) She then told me my only option was to go to a health clinic in another town, and have them fax my records there.

So I called the clinic in the next town, and made an appointment for Friday (today). I specifically asked them if I would be able to get the pills today. They said yes. So I drove 45 minutes to get to this place. I get there, and have to wait 35 minutes for the other town to fax my records. Then they call me into the back, weigh me, take my blood pressure AGAIN, and inform me that they spoke with the nurse practitioner and she doesn't want them to give me the pills, she wants to see me herself.

*screams and pulls out hair*

The people working at that clinic were very nice, they were kind of annoyed with her as well. They gave me the telephone number of the nurse practitioner's supervisor. I called her, and then SHE called and spoke with the NP. They were suddenly able to work me in on Tuesday, but would do nothing until then.

To be honest I do NOT want to go back there, but I really need my pills. They will already be two days late, so I get to take two pills a day for a couple days which will make me sick as a dog.

I do not understand the situation at all. How can a nurse practitioner authorize some random nurse to give me a depo shot, yet she can't authorize them to give me birth control pills??? I MIGHT be able to understand if I hadn't been on them for three years, but come on! I know the risks!

What do you think about all this?

I AM SO FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Date: 10/8/2004 9:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 3688    seems like fate's trying to tell ya something....lol come on..join the rest of the USM'ers who're having babies
Date: 10/8/2004 9:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 47218    I have come across nurse practitioners like this-- they get very hung up on their own point of view and try to force it on the patient, no matter what the patient thinks. Hence, she was bent on giving you the Depo shot whether you wanted it or not. I find it objectionable that you were *talked into* doing that in the first place-- I mean, what business is it of theirs to pressure you into making such a radical change in birth control (considering the side effects and all)?
Date: 10/8/2004 9:46:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 9130    Mollycat-- when I talked to her on the phone she asked me why I chose not to get the shot. I told her I spoke to my cousin and a co-worker who had had lots of problems with it, as well as people on the internet. She actually had the nerve to say to me: "Well not to sound snotty but where did they get their doctoral degree's?"
Date: 10/8/2004 9:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 3688    Diz, did you say "where did you?" last I checked a nurse isn't a doctor lol
Date: 10/8/2004 9:49:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 9130    OMG I wish I had thought of that! LOL
Date: 10/8/2004 9:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 3688    lol i'm just on a roll tonight....lol must be a hormonal thing...lol
Date: 10/8/2004 9:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 7952    Ugh.. stupid people annoy me. When i was on the pill I had absolutely no trouble with getting my pills. Sorry to hear about your situation!
Date: 10/8/2004 10:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 609    Wow Dizzy...nice hassle they put you thru. I was on birth control for about 8 years and I never had problems like that. Now after I had Draven is a different matter lol the pills I was on effected me differently giving me pregnancy symptoms almost monthly and various other probs so I had to stop taking them now it's a hassle to get on new ones since my family Dr moved over a year ago and my medical records are apperently trapped in a limbo lol. I wish you luck but I hope you tell her off a bit when you go back.
Date: 10/8/2004 10:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 24319    I can't believe they did that. I have never known anyone to have to go through all that trouble for BC pills, specially if they were already on them. That really sucks.
Date: 10/8/2004 10:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 36766    They either - 1. Want you to have a baby or 2. They just want your money or 3. Like to annoy you, lol.
Date: 10/8/2004 11:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    we dont have that kind of problem over here Dizzy, the girls can get them as easy as anything!!! sometimes I think they need to be a little more thorough with them before just handing over prescriptions....
Date: 10/8/2004 11:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 62146    well if this is gods way of telling you to have a baby he is being alfuly rude today isent he.
Date: 10/8/2004 11:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    get another doctor.... after you get thepills never see her again.... maybe she makes more or the clinic makes more by pushing the shot... when you see her ask her why she told you that she couldnt fit you in till the end of the month then she magically got an opening AND how she told you to go to another clinic then still denied it... it sounds like more is going on then what she is saying(almost makes me wonder if she is going on a power trip here)
Date: 10/9/2004 3:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 62915    I am horrified to see this happen! How rude and judgemental. I changed from the pill to the injection and personally I would not go back!! I love being on the injection and not having to worry about monthlies and missing a pill. It's pure bliss lol. On the other hand the pill is fine as well. Ultimatley it is a personal choice and you habve the right to make it and they should oblige. Sorry to hear you went through this *hugz* Ghost-Chick
Date: 10/9/2004 5:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 25390    Good grief. What is with her? She's not a doctor, she needs to quit acting like one. In the mean time, go on, have a baby. The stork is following you! *evil laugh*
Date: 10/9/2004 6:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 46069    have you been thinking about having a babay ?? Cause once you get it in your head.. its hard to get that thought out until you actually do have one.Yes, I would be a tad annoyed.. so after all that .. and getting annoyed and all you will go back .. get your BP checked and it will be high because of this situation!
Date: 10/9/2004 9:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 20296    change clinics. this nurse sounds like a total control freak, unless there are some reasons the pill is unsafe for you?? are you a smoker??? over 35????? but depro is hormones as well, so i am a bit confused.
Date: 10/9/2004 9:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 20296    oh, btw....my daughter is on the shot. she has break through bleeding constantly. she has not gained any weight that i can tell, but the bleeding causes her problems. she is still going to use the shot though. i do not think she is responsible enough to take a pill every day and neither does she. but beyond that, the shot is fine...
Date: 10/9/2004 9:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 6867    Just in defense of nurses(to some of the ppl commenting like they are nothing or no one to make any informed and educated decisions)....(I am in nursing school)no, nurses can't do what this one was doing, but she's an Nurse Practitioner, so she is kind of like a doctor(no, she is not a doctor)but sure does have alot of authority, that's prob her clinic and she has other nurses(RNs and LVNs)working for her. She conferences with a doctor when need be. Not that what she did was right...but lighten up on nurses a little.....they are so very overworked and stressed all the time...you have no idea what they go through. I'm sorry this woman had you so frazzled....I don't know what her deal was...I'm still learning so i can't tell you why she was doing things the way she was...maybe Brenda can tell ya. Hug-A-NURSE(they really do need it sometimes),
Date: 10/9/2004 10:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 6867    excuse the grammar errors, please, geesh.
Date: 10/9/2004 10:37:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 9130    Gia-- the other nurse at the NP's office and the nurse at the other office were wonderful. I seriously wonder what the NP has against me. lol
Date: 10/9/2004 10:40:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 9130    CBlossom-- I have been on the pill for 3 1/2 years. I am not a smoker and am not a high risk patient. I was taking tetracycline for one month to kinda help my skin-- but they told me that could mess with my pills even though the deromologist swears it won't. I told them I'm not taking the tetracycline anymore now that I know it supposedly messes with the effectivness of the birth control pills, but the NP acts like she doesn't believe me or something. I was to scream "If I wanted to get pregnant I'd go off the pill, idiot. I'm not taking any chances!"
Date: 10/9/2004 12:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    until you get your pills stay away from the USM water cooler...cause there's something in the water....LOL....hope they can work with you FAST...that would frustrate me to no end as well.
Date: 10/9/2004 3:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 49742    Your NP is on some power trip! It's very frustrating what you've had to go through!
Date: 10/9/2004 3:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 6867    Yeah, it seems like your NP is on some sort of power trip. Typical it seems....I know one, who went through that after becoming one, she calls it her horrid God complex phase. Yeah, not all nurses are bad ppl. Just the ones who loathe their jobs I'm guessing.
