Personal Calls

Most business owners and managers have policies in place regarding personal phone calls. They can vary anywhere from relaxed to no tolerance. This can be tough considering some of us have small children, babysitters, elderly family members, etc. While we all can understand the boyfriend/ girlfriend gabbing problems, working an 8 to 12 hour day with no communication from family can be stressful. Do you have an arrangement for personal calls at your place of business, or do you have to 'sneak calls' home?

Date: 10/8/2004 12:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 61897    Our policy is up to 2 personal phone calls a day, kept to a minimum during work time.
Date: 10/8/2004 12:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 23075    we are allowed personal calls...however who ever is manning the phones that day.....when we get incoming calls they have to take precedence over personal calls..same as me being able to be here while at work..as long as I answer the phone..or if I get called out on an investigation...I have to do that first....my boss ispretty cool
Date: 10/8/2004 12:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 49101    Most of the companies I have worked for have had a policy, yet a lenient policy on the matter. As for me, I just never made personal calls at work. I have been working for about ten years and yet I can count on one hand the number of personal calls I have taken, all of them being emergencies.
Date: 10/8/2004 1:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 33925    That is why I keep my cellphone turned on and set to vibrate at all times..If my family needs to reach me they can at any time and it can be done without disturbing my coworkers.
Date: 10/8/2004 1:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 62401    My husband is in the Air Force and he is allowed to have his cell phone with him. He can make personal calls as long as we dont sit and chat on the phone all day
Date: 10/8/2004 3:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 12876    I really never had no problem with it, any employer I have had will tell you, I was stricter about it then they were, my family and friends were told by me, when i am at work, in a store or other business, you do not call except for emergencies, anything else can wait till I am at home, a call at work or when i am relaxing automatically upsets me because I think er, and I hope all resepct that wish, if i needed to call or speak to someone, I did so on breaks
Date: 10/8/2004 4:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 47218    no arrangement at my work. They trust us to use our own discretion on using the phone for personal calls. Just how I like it. I don't use the phone that much anyway-- every once in a blue moon to call a friend if it important, or to schedule appointments or to take care of things that have to be taken care of immiediately. We're talking a couple minutes maybe...every two weeks. That's it. I'm a good employee. (of course, it's so quiet in there that they would notice if I was gabbing on the phone all the time).
Date: 10/8/2004 4:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 24003    I work the front desk at a hotel, I work alone. I can be on the phone all day long if I like LOL
Date: 10/8/2004 10:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 36766    We're allowed to have personal calls at work, but if ppl want to get ahold of me, they can just call my cell phone. I wouldn't want the bosses to be annoyed by ppl calling me for stupid reasons.
Date: 10/8/2004 11:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 62752    between 2-4 we are allowed to talk, were pretty dead then but other then that only for very important calls :-p
Date: 10/8/2004 11:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 53909    I think that we're allowed to have personal phone calls as long as it's not too often.
Date: 10/8/2004 11:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 49739    Where I work, there is no policy for or against personal calls. It helps that my mom and step-dad are my bosses, lol. The only rule we have set up in the company (its a towing company) is that we use our own phones for personal calls. The office phone and the company nextel cellphone is off limits because that is how we get our business, and we don't want to miss a call because that's money in all of our pockets, lol.
Date: 10/9/2004 6:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 19772    In my store personal calls are to be done during your break or lunch unless it's an emergency. I work third so anyone who calls me at that hour of night is obviously an emergency. ~Take Care~
Date: 10/9/2004 2:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 4144    i can have all the calls i want. i am the boss in my office! well, actually, i'm the only one in my office! but i have made and taken personal calls even when the boss is standing right there. he don't mess with me too much. i sign his paycheck!!
Date: 10/9/2004 5:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 58553    Where I work its no personal call polciy but only if its Excessive....I work in nursing home....but the place where i worked before i moved allowed at least one personal call in and out on NON-Break time........but we are able to use cell phone on breaks or get permission.....
Date: 10/15/2004 10:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 49763    I was able to make long distance calls at my job =D ~~
