ROMEO AND JULIET AND THE TITANIC: TRUE LOVE OR JUST INFATUATION?

I was thinking about how I love these two love stories, but Im just wondering if its real love or just young people's fascination with love and their lover.

I don't see R&J as a love story because in the course of the story, Romeo is constantly in and out of love. First he is in love with Rosaline, but she shuns him. Then there is the threat that Juliet'll have to marry Count Parris and Romeo just happens to how up and 'fall in love' with her.

I think that Juliet is simply a 'rebelious' (not to the extreme, but what most normal teenagers go throug) girl who wants to marry someone she loves and Romeo just happens to be the first guy to catch her eye and her fancy. Romeo is constantly in and out of love... and Juliet just pays attention to him so he encourages her to come off with him.

I think Titanic worked the same way. A depressed, compressed rich girl wants so deperately to be away from her life that when she meets this 'rebel' (according to her poper society), she is willing to stake everything to be with him.

I think its more fascination than love.

what do you think

Date: 10/8/2004 11:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 22308    haven't you all heard of love at first sight? and also people falling in love in less than that amount of time. i know it may be crazy but it does happen.
Date: 10/8/2004 12:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 25756    I think it is real love. I admit that I'm a hopeless romantic myself, but those things can happen and last (if they hadn't died) and maybe it's less fascination, and more of being "meant" to be together. And maybe the girl feels uncomfortable in her position as rich...and all the guys in her class that she's met were stuck-up or only comcerned with money, etc.
Date: 10/8/2004 2:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 62901    I definatly agree with Janessa and Mrs. Froto!! But I'm a romantic myself!! lol =) It can happen... anything's possible ~Rachel~
Date: 10/8/2004 3:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 55386    Well, I think you might be reading into two fictional romances. Romeo and Juliet was a tragedy thought up by Shakespeare, and Titanic, well, lets just say that never happened. Hehe. There really was a Jack Dawson and Rose...w\e her last name is, but they never met, and never fell in love, just for a pointless fact lol. I believe both of these concepts go well with "Love at first site" and also depending on their situations. There's a million ways to look at this. Rose loved Jack because he was simple, he wasn't stuck up like the rest of the people she knew, Jack loved her because, well, he did? idk lol. Romeo and Juliet is a whole "love at first site" Thing. It pretty much just has a moral of letting your children love who they want I guess.... I really dunno what either of the writers were intending. But again, I think you're reading a biiit too much into fictional things hehe.
Date: 10/8/2004 3:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 62915    I think it was love but not in love. I loved my boyfriend from the moment I saw him BUT i wasn't truly in love with him until we started having conflicts and go through tough times and still survive. These stories could have led on to them being in love but as we all know it didn't :P I still think they could make titanic 2 Jack mysteriously survives lol or Jack has a twin brother. LMAO Ghost-Chick
Date: 10/8/2004 11:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 62146    Romeo and juliet is probbly 'the' love story of all time I have not researched it much so I can not give a detailed opinyion on the stosy but from what i know it dose seem like a powerfull love storys two familys fight each other yet one teenager from each side falls in love despite the conflict. it shows that we do not chose those we love. I have not seen the film for romeo and juliet for ages so I do not rember much though so sorry if i know nothing about what happened in the story. now witch titanic I though the love storys was very powerul and moveing, exsept one thing that really anopyed me rose risked her life and gave up her family to save jack then when the ship sank he gave up his life for her she saved his life just so he could die in the frezzing warter what was the point of that it is realistic woman do surivie longer in cold warter than men. I guess maybe it had to show them doing somthing good for one another in the story like she saves his life so he dose the same for her. I can not deside with either one. I am sorry. keep in mind I am a romantic though I do belive in soul mates and all that garbage but i can not see witch love story is more real than the other.
Date: 10/9/2004 1:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 62893    I think love takes time to develop. You can really like someone at first site and think you love them but then get to know them and hate their personallity. Love is a growth process and grows with time. I don't belive in love at first sight, I belive in lust at first sight but love takes time.Misty
Date: 10/11/2004 12:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 22080    its not real love because theyre both fictional OH FACE
