Are you joking? First off the ONLY disease cat feces can transmit(unless you feed them the BARF(Bones and Raw Food) Diet) is Toxoplasmosis, to which they only suggest pregnant women do not clean litter boxes. But then again humans can carry alot more diseases in their feces.  |

Well to me this is rubbish. I dont agree one tiny bit. However if one who is a christian cannot own a cat, then why not dogs? Are there not such a possibly "mythical" legend known as hell hounds? How can someone onwing a cat have anything to do with salvation. As for every other sin we can commit to prevent us from salvation they are all listen in the bible. For example, my sin of reading the tarot cards or using divination to do so...etc.. Im sure it would be listed... ~*PeacefulDreamer*~  |

I think I'm going to hell--I own 7 cats (all outdoors, some kittens) and I adore each and every one of them. What are acceptable pets than, if cats aren't? Did ANYONE in any part of the Bible own ANY pet?? So the Egyptians worshiped them...hmm, no more milk or hamburger, or going near a farm for me--the people of Moses worshiped Aaron's golden calf (Exodus 32), and the Hindi worship cattle. Jim, although your post seems well-intentioned and sincere, there are some ideas I would like you to consider. 1) Anything that people worship becomes an idol. Although I don't have a cat, I believe I could own one without being tempted to fall away into idolatry. Egypt's problem doesn't have to be my problem. 2) Religious people of the Middle Ages had some strange ideas, many of them without scientific [or scriptural] basis. I don't have a lot of confidence in the analysis of people that rushed to hang nineteen people without compelling evidence; neither should you. 3) Dogs are spoken of in the Bible less favorably than cats; are you willing to tell people they should get rid of their dogs? 4) Be careful here. It is not wise to draw inference from Biblical silence. It is not recorded whether Paul had a wife; it is not recorded that any of the apostles ever bathed, brushed their teeth or used the bathroom; it is not recorded that Jesus had more than one change of clothing. I believe you understand my point; don't manufacture a doctrine from Biblical silence. 5) Cats can spread salmonella, but the germs on the unwashed hands of medical people have killed literally thousands of the sick and injured. Even today, the CDC acknowledges that handwashing is one of the most efficient methods of keeping disease in check. Finally, I think God's viewpoint on this matter would encourage each of us to search the scriptures and pray for individual guidance. If you feel strongly about this, you should live accordingly. I suspect that others do not have such committed opinions about this.  |

how about the fact that cats are sweet, loving companions and that they bring joy to people. they comfort you when you're crying, they sit there quietly while you go about doing your things.. i think cats are wonderful! and on this one: " 4) The scriptures make no indication that any of the faithful men of old or the Apostles or Jesus owned a cat, is this mere coincidence, I think not."... well i don't think they owned fish or dogs or mice, either... but that doesn't mean that fish and dogs are bad. i think you're taking it much too far.  |
