A Public School means for the public, meaning different culture and religions. If Public Schools start banning religion, they aren't really a public school, in my eyes anyway. It's just another way for them to control us....If I want to wear a shirt that represents my religion, I'm going to, and if I'm told to take it off, I'd rather be suspended. They will not take away my religion. The Pledge should also not be taken away. If you believe in God, then you say the pledge, if you don't, you shouldn't have to, but there should be the option....Bah, stupid people trying to control us....Whatever happened to the time when we had freedom of speech, culture and religion....Guess that disappeared along with freedom of self. |

what do i think? i think that kids can do their religeon thing while the kids who dont want to wont have to. it is the kids choice to say 'under god', or not say those 2 words like i do. just as long as they arent going a manditory prayer by teachers orders...its fine..religeon IS allowed in schools, but you have to go in a club or have a group. that is good...blocking the halls' flow because a group of kids are praying ,NO MATTER WHAT RELIGEON, is NOT allowed. (i wasnt yelling...it was emphasis). banning the pledge: its the schoolboards' decision, not the principal's...well...theres my opinions. cya round dude(ette)! - Blade of the Samurai |

I think if a t shirt is not offensive, ya know bad language or a picture of something to do with sex, then yes, one should be able to wear that shirt as long as it covers the body, which is most of what schools want. |

we all know the speech...kids can initiate and practice on they're own..the state can't force anything. |

While certain things are enforced - not practicing religion in school - let's not forget that administrations are only human and will have different interpretations of these things or will have different standards to upholding them. - |

Forget banning religion, I believe spelling should be taught in "puplic" [sic] schools. |

I feel that the expression of ones beliefs, be it on a t-shirt or through wearing religious/philisophical emblems or symbols (i.e. a crucifix or a turbin) should not only be allowed but encouraged in public schools. Toay's society creats row upon row of "normal" people. but there is no definition of "normal". People are all different and they should be encouraged to express their differences and to accept and respect others' differences. absolutely the schools should not espouse one belief over another, but the freeom of expression should be respected by all. |

Indeed, Alien. I know California's public schools are a mockery. The majority of California's budget goes towards education, an we're still falling behind. People think that you can solve a problem simply by throwing money at it. Money helps, but only if it's used wisely. Get rid of all the bureacracy, no more than one "administrator" for every 500 students, no more than one person administering every 20 administrators, etc. Having more training and better training for teachers. New and better books, equipment, special speakers. Cut spending on extra-curricular sports, make music required studying. It's been shown that studying music helps children concentrate and learn more efficiently. During the summer vacation, send teachers to 'Training Camps'. Vacation-like camps in the country where they learn the very latest teaching techniques, the cutting edge information of their field. And make their salary and/or raise potential commensurate with their students' standarized test scores. More and better field trips. -OR- clone my high school music teacher, Mr. Faria, an distribute evenly accross the state. =) |
