Police Continue To Look For Child Stolen From Grocery Store Parking Lot Wednesday October 06, 2004 2:58pm Posted By: Kevin King

Tulsa - The search is continuing for a two-month-old child who was stolen from a northside grocery store parking lot. It happened Wednesday afternoon at about 1:30 at the Albertson's near 1600 North Peoria. The child was inside a van that was stolen from the parking lot. The van was later found abandoned and the suspect and child both remain missing at this time.

It all began when the blue 1993 Chevrolet AstroVan was stolen from the Albertson's store near 1600 North Peoria at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. An Amber Alert was issued shortly before two o'clock, but at about two o'clock, the van in question was discovered abandoned near 900 North Peoria, but the van was empty.

Donna Montgomery called 911 after she discovered the van.

"I looked out the window and noticed the van wasn't parked right, parked in front of our car," Mongtomery said. "I just looked in the van and noticed these baby things in there and I said, 'this is the van'".

Montgomery says she witnessed police with weapons drawn looking through nearby apartment buildings in the search for the suspect. Police continue to look for the suspect and the child at this time, but that statewide alert was canceled because there is no vehicle description to go on. Police are now calling it a stranger abduction.

Police set up a perimeter near 900 North Peoria where the van was discovered abandoned. Dogs and the police helicopter are being used in the search and about 2:30 p.m., officers were looking under a building nearby.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 5-foot-10, wearing a dark blue jacket with a light blue t-shirt, like a gas station attendant would wear, underneath the jacket. He was also wearing dark blue pants and a blue baseball cap with white lettering or logo on the front.

The child, named Donte Sharkey, is wearing blue and white a baseball-type outfit. Police say surveillance video shows that the child's mother was inside the store for just one minute and when she returned, the vehicle and child were gone.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Emergency Operations Center at 596-COPS immediately and give authorities as much detail as you can. Do not call 911 at this time, call the EOC.

**Now, police are saying that they think this was a hoax. I'd be arresting someone!!!**
