let's talk about playing the piano

Actually I have a question for the experienced piano players here, or maybe just musicians in general. I'm finding it really hard to play it evenly. for example, the quarter & eighth notes aren't hard, but any 16th or 32 after that is just hard. it's not playing it that's hard, it's trying to maintain the exact timing throughout the whole thing that's hard. I wanted to see how the pros does it, so I got two CDs and played two different songs; one from each CD. I found a verse with just quarter notes; I found that they played it at different lenghs...pretty close but not exactly the same. does it HAVE to be the same? my quarter notes lasts about 3/4 of a second..do I really have to be that precise?

when I play it, it's not like I"m THAT far off from how the piece should sound, it's just that I might be 1-2 seconds slower or faster or something..

Set the metronome at a slower rhythm than what is written and just practice playing the 16th/32/64th notes slower. Speed the metronome up gradually, and your rhythm will even out. once you have it down, take the metronome away and you'll be surprised how well you can keep a steady rhythm.

For example, if at the top of the piece you are given (picture of quarter note)=60, that means you will play 60 quarternotes in one minute. That means quarter notes will last one second, 8th notes half a second, etc. If at the top it doesn't have the actual time, but has "andante" or "moderato," First you have to know what that means, LOL. Andante means "Walking," so you would go at a slower, walking pace. Moderato is a little faster, and so on. Music will not sound the same by two different people. It is how the notes are interpreted.
