Does politics make anyone else depressed? -Magenta Blue

So I don't know about anyone else, but I know why I'm tempted to not vote this year- it seems totally useless. I don't support either of the two major canidates, and it seems like the country will have to totally colapse before a third party canidate will ever be elected into office. They don't have the big corporation and overwhelming party support or the money to really be much of a contest against the ones who do. I feel like I can never have the kind of government that I want- the one that puts money into schools (and understands the real complexities of education, like the falseness of standardized testing) instead of war and the one that is sympathetic to the social injustices that we see (or don't see) every day. Sometimes I wish I could be in support of whoever is in office because it seems like it would make me more pleased with living here in the United States, but I know in my heart that I don't and I won't until something drastic happens. Eh, so I think I'm finished with my little speech. Any comments are welcome, of course, but I really don't want this to turn into any kind of debate or argument. Thank you... -Magenta Blue

Date: 10/5/2004 11:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 53961    We, as American citizens, need to become a part of the solution and not the problem. That also goes for every country where there is a right to vote. We are so very fortunate to have this right all these years. Woman fought hard to achieve this many years ago. If the choices are not exactly what you want then choose one who is closest. It's like choosing which chocolate cake to pick from; All will most likely have fine qualities that make them desirable, but only one will come close to satisfaction. That's the one you will or should choose as your favorite. Same goes for politics. m2cw
Date: 10/5/2004 12:10:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 13897    Yes, I know. I really truly want to vote because it shows that I care and that I'm responsible and an active member of society. But I feel so lost and hopeless about it... that's all.
Date: 10/5/2004 12:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 62267    They don't depress me...there are far worse things...like burning to death as you fall from a cliff...ah well..
Date: 10/5/2004 12:26:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 13897    umm..alright. well I guess you could say that about anything. for me at least, even if there are worse things in the world, I still get upset about what's happening around me.
Date: 10/5/2004 1:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 5229    Politics don't depress me and I'll be the first to admit that I don't know jack about them. This is the first vote that I get to put in, so I'm kind of excited about it. Nobody can have everything that they want, especially when it comes to a leader of our country, so, like Paula said, choose the closest one. None of them are going to cover exactly everything that you want, and noone is going to make our country a perfect place because noone has the same ideas on what needs to be looked at first. Don't let it get you down. Have a good day!
Date: 10/5/2004 4:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 34487    Politics do get to be overwhelming at times...especially when that's all you see and hear. I will be voting this year, since I feel strongly about it. I understand your frustration with politics in general though, you're not alone.
Date: 10/5/2004 4:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 24732    I actually like politics, but I'm far more interested in grassroots and local politics then politics nationwide. National politics are what the media pays attention to and the masses vote on, but I find I'm personally effected more at the local and state level (and in local elections sometimes a handful of votes do count).
Date: 10/5/2004 5:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 62146    politics make me depressed aswell of course I am not old enaf to vote yet so it dose not matter but yeah I see your point that nothing really happens.
Date: 10/5/2004 5:33:00 PM  ( Admin-DNL )   Politics make me depressed sometimes too. I get carried away way too easily also, I have caught myself on and off USM saying things I never thought i would say! lol
Date: 10/5/2004 8:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 3642    heres are just a few of the facts which I obtained from a post here on USM http://www.factcheck.org/article.aspx?docid=200 <-------Very intresting hit the home button while your there
Date: 10/5/2004 8:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 3642    It may help you decide its a good thing to vote even if the security around voting freak's me out because there are leaks that they have not taken care of http://www.unsolvedmysteries.com/usm393873.html
Date: 10/5/2004 8:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    I'm voting, we have too..
Date: 10/6/2004 7:31:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 13897    thanks everyone for your comments! ALF, I would like to get more information about local politics but I don't even know where to start! I really don't trust the media becuase it distorts everything.. what is a girl to do?
Date: 10/6/2004 9:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 24732    Your town newspaper should have information about upcoming local elections, people running for office, and even local political parties you can look into and join if you like them. You can also look up your representatives and senators websites and see what they are up to (except I don't think the state legislature is required to post what they vote, at least where I live).
Date: 12/22/2023 12:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Magenta Blue Well, here we are, almost twenty years later and yes, I am quite depressed with current politics. Hang in there and write on.....
