I may need surgery

I may need surgery on my achilles tendon in my right ankle.

I cut it in two when I was 7 years old, 31 years ago. It has given me problems from time to time, nothing serious, till lately. I went to an orthopaedic doctor yesterday and he says he believes that my tendon is about to tear. I have to go for an MRI next week. I know surgery is imminent because there is a constant nagging pain and there is swelling in part of the scar on the back of my leg. I walk with a slight limp because I am afraid my leg will "give" and cause me to fall. (I fell in the parts freezer at work 2 weeks ago. I fell face first into all that metal and luckily only had scratches on my arm and right leg.) I am afraid of what could happen if I wait too long to have the surgery done, (the doc said it would be up to me as far as when it would be done.) I am afraid of what the results could be after I have it done. I remember having to learn to walk again when I was 7. I know it will be harder for me since I am older. I guess I am just worried.

....thanks for listening.....Green Eyed Froggy

UPDATE: The clinic called me this morning to schedule the MRI. My appointment is on the 11th of October. Wish me luck.

I will send you some good vibes & prayers your way.It will be better in the long run. Then you can head out to the Disco's and dance the night away. Best wishes & Huggs. Deborah AKA Chinablue
Date: 9/25/2004 8:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 47218    older? sheesh-- 31 isn't that bad. My dad just had double knee surgery, and he's 60! anyhow, having it fixed so that you can heal is better than having to limp around and worry about falling on your face, don't you think? It sounds like you're barely mobile as it is, so what have you got to lose?
Date: 9/25/2004 8:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 25390    I would get the surgery as soon as you can. You may have relearn to walk on it, but if you don't get the surgery, you may not be able to walk on it at all. Good luck to you!
Date: 9/28/2004 5:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 28767    Yeah, I ripped the tendon that is in the middle of you hill. And it took three months for a cast and than another tow months to getback up and running literaly. But hey I don't have anymore pain from the expierience. Peace Out..
