NEED HELP!!! ---Faith Alone ?!? ---Paranoid---

***** Still wondering if there are any OTHER reasons --do not have to be scriptural *****

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need to know ALL of the reasons some Christians believe they are saved by faith alone.

I am familiar with these passages, and the arguments which come with them:

Romans 10:9-10 Luke 23:39-43 Romans 3:21-4:13

I am looking for OTHER reasons/scriptures which support this belief.

I will not be debating/discussing my own personal beliefs on this post. Let's just say that I do not believe "faith alone" is entirely correct. I am only gathering information for personal use. If you wish to debate this subject with me, I will be more than happy to oblige on a different post.

But please, please, please TRY to convince me why salvation comes through faith alone. Any and ALL scriptural reasons would be greatly appreciated. Examples and other reasons would also be helpful.

Thanks,

--Paranoid--

Date: 9/21/2004 9:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 15157    Well...if you don`t have faith to begin with...then whats the use in believing there is a God in the first place therefore Faith is the key...As for me I do believe in God.
Date: 9/21/2004 9:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 7952    As most often used in the scriptures, faith is confidence and trust in Jesus Christ that lead a person to obey him. Faith must be centered in Jesus Christ in order for it to lead a person to salvation
Date: 9/21/2004 9:58:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34476    I personally believe that faith is very important. It's just not the ONLY thing necessary for salvation. *BUT* I said that I wasn't going to begin a debate here, so I will stop myself now. Thanks for the input so soon!!!
Date: 9/21/2004 10:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 7952    I do agree with your point (in principle) that there is more to salvation than just faith. Though, as stated in my above comment, it is through faith in Jesus Christ which results in salvation. What is faith in Christ? It is the love, the repentence, the commandments, the atonement and it is his teachings.. all of which are perfect examples of what our Heavenly Father intended his Children on Earth to demonstrate. I probably made absolutely no sense in this comment but i hope you understand what i'm trying to say
Date: 9/21/2004 10:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 30742    " For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boaast. Ephesians 2-9 " "Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I may have Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own goodness or my ability to obey God's law, but I trust Christ to save me. For God's way of making us right with himself depends on faith." Philippians 3-9.

Date: 9/21/2004 10:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 30742    And yet we Jewish Christians know that we become right with God, not by doing what the law commands, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be accepted by God because of our faith in Christ--and not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be saved by obeying the law.
Galatians 2:16

Date: 9/21/2004 10:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 30742    "But people are declared righteous because of their faith, not because of their work." Romans 4:5.... Read entire Chapter of Romans 13"It is clear, then, that God's promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was not based on obedience to God's law, but on the new relationship with God that comes by faith. 14So if you claim that God's promise is for those who obey God's law and think they are "good enough" in God's sight, then you are saying that faith is useless. And in that case, the promise is also meaningless. 15But the law brings punishment on those who try to obey it. (The only way to avoid breaking the law is to have no law to break!)
16So that's why faith is the key! God's promise is given to us as a free gift. And we are certain to receive it, whether or not we follow Jewish customs, if we have faith like Abraham's. For Abraham is the father of all who believe. 17That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, "I have made you the father of many nations."[3] This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who brings into existence what didn't exist before.
18When God promised Abraham that he would become the father of many nations, Abraham believed him. God had also said, "Your descendants will be as numerous as the stars,"[4] even though such a promise seemed utterly impossible! 19And Abraham's faith did not weaken, even though he knew that he was too old to be a father at the age of one hundred and that Sarah, his wife, had never been able to have children.
20Abraham never wavered in believing God's promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. 21He was absolutely convinced that God was able to do anything he promised. 22And because of Abraham's faith, God declared him to be righteous.
23Now this wonderful truth--that God declared him to be righteous--wasn't just for Abraham's benefit. 24It was for us, too, assuring us that God will also declare us to be righteous if we believe in God, who brought Jesus our Lord back from the dead. 25He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised from the dead to make us right with God."

Date: 9/21/2004 10:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 30742    Here are many other scripture on Faith. Repentance of sins is not a work, as we confess our need of a Savior and place our Faith alone on the finished work of the cross. Romans 5:1, Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.

Well then, what shall we say about these things? Just this: The Gentiles have been made right with God by faith, even though they were not seeking him. 31But the Jews, who tried so hard to get right with God by keeping the law, never succeeded. 32Why not? Because they were trying to get right with God by keeping the law and being good instead of by depending on faith. They stumbled over the great rock in their path. Romans 9:30-32

Date: 9/21/2004 10:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 30742    However Parnoid, repentance of our sins is required, it is only when we see ourselves in our state of a sinful nature that will enable us to have Faith not in ourselves to obey God or save ourself by being good or doing good works, but by placing our Faith in Christ alone.
Date: 9/21/2004 11:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 37900    IMO, the Bible does not support the idea that we are saved by faith alone. The passages you've mentioned, along with many others, support the teaching that faith is useless unless it is acted upon. James 26 compares our actions to the life force that animates our faith. Works separate living faith from dead faith.
Date: 9/21/2004 11:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    MsMorality has did a good job, so I think she has covered much. Its by Faith as DW said, that brings us to Jesus. Its by FAITH that we are saved. But then we also must remember that faith without works is dead. Look it up, its in the bible. Also this is said about faith.Jms:18: Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works___.. And what this means is that because we have Faith or recieved the faith to believe in Jesus then we must also believe in his word and his word tells us that the works that HE did we shall do also. And what did Jesus say Mt5:32: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
Mt5:33: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
Mt5:34: Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
Mt5:35: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
Mt5:36: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
Mt5:37: Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
Mt5:38: When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
Mt5:39: Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
Mt5:40: And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.""
THESE are the works that Jesus would have us do. None of our goodness or working to make our selves good or righteouse or holy will do any good, for God tells us that""Rom:35: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Rom:36: To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Rom:37: Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
Rom:38: Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.Rom:5: Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Rom:5:10: For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
Rom:5:11: And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.1Jn:1: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1Jn:1: If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
I've found the best way to understand the scripture is to ask God , to pray for him to enlighten the eyes of our understanding so that we will have a walk with Him, fully understanding and recieving wisdom from Him. Godbless

Date: 9/22/2004 4:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 62801    I think that salvation is kind of like a taxi ride. Initially when you first get in to the cab it's free, you can sit there and talk to the driver and he won't charge you. However, as soon as you start to move, it's going to cost you. Sure, you may get away with riding for free for awhile, but as soon as the driver finds out that your not willing to pay the price, he's going to kick you out. Of course if you just pay the man, you will have a great relationship with him and he'll take you places that you could have never gone in your own ability. Now the farther you go, the greater the price you'll have to pay. But to get your destination, it's worth it!! F.A.I.T.H., Fantastic-Adventures-In-The-Holy Ghost *LoveisAll*
Date: 9/22/2004 9:31:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34476    I'd like to thank all who have replied here! What a wealth of information to sift through. Thank you very very very much!
Date: 9/22/2004 9:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    I agree with Alfrowl. Having faith in one's own belief or scriptures is global, when it gets down to me persoanally, it's what I feel inside, my conscience guides me, directs me, and that is my Spiritual guide, knowing that all can't be right and some may be wrong, but having a conscience and living with it most surely is an indirect way of "serving".
