The longest tunnel is the New york City West Delaware water supply tunnel, built between 1937 and 1944.
It runs for 105 miles, and is designed to carry water.
The longest tunnel designed for transportation is the Seikan Rail Tunnel in Japan.
It travels under the Tsugaro Straight, connecting the islands of Honshu and Hokkaido.
