I am in panic mode again! Not as bad this time ~*PeacefulDreamer*~

Hello all,

I went to the Emergency room about a week ago to evaluate the chest pains I was having, of course as usual they said it was anxiety and pushed me along my way with some nerve pills, They did do some tests though, he done an ECG, felt my thyroid in my neck and done some bloodwork for the same. The bloodwork all came back normal. However my Primary care doc tells me today that he needs to see me for a follow up and is concerned with this lump in my neck, now the ER doc did not tell me about the lump in my neck, only that my thyroid felt large and that is why he ran the thyroid tests, that and the prescence of a rapid heartrate. Now they have me all worried that I have cancer, the odd thing is, I feel no neck pain and I have examined and reexamined myself for this lump and I just dont see nor do I feel it at all. Has anyone else ever had this? I know neck lumps can be many things, but for those of us with a medical anxiety it is worrisome, beleive it or not though I am handling it quite well for the moment, not freaking, just looking things up and absorbing all the information that I have so far. What comforts me if not only a little bit is that I do not feel a lump in my neck anywhere, and beleive me as I said I have examined it extensively. Mt Primary Doc wants an ultrasound and so forth to find out what this lump in my neck is and I am worried sick. I go back to the doc in the morning for a one week evaluation from starting my new meds, I figure I will discuss it further with him at that time. But in the meantime, if anyone else has experienced this then please let me know.

Date: 9/21/2004 6:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 47218    hey you may find some comfort in this website: http://www.endocrineweb.com/thyroidca.html It says that the most common thyroid cancers are HIGHLY CURABLE (95 percent!) Also, the most dangerous kind usually doesn't strike young people.

Date: 9/21/2004 11:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    I'm sure you will be fine, they found a lump in my neck where my thyroid is and it was because mine is under active. YET my co worker, had a lump in hers also and it was because hers was HYPER thyroid. So I'm thinking that lump will be explained in one of those fashions.
