Good Morning USM!!!!! I Hope all have a Great Day!!!

Most here know I left my home state for a vacation and in Search of employment. While I was vacationing with a lady friend of mine in Montana..While we were there, We met a Vietnam Veteran who was seeking an Aid and Attendant.

I won't degrade neither belittle this Veterans' or Any one with regard to a mental health status.. However he has several diagnosis that are way out of my Formal Training to fully understand, perhaps I am also too close to the situation to form an unbiased opinion. He attended Bible college then went on to the Navy and from there was drafted in by The S.E.A.L.S. from there to Vietnam. I have my own personal feelings with regard to the Vietnam War. I have a friend who served, whom to this day suffers from P.T.S.D. (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), who was exposed to Agent Orange in The Macon Delta. My late Husband had an uncle who also served in Vietnam and was exposed to a lethal dose of Agent Orange and passed away from cancer when he was only 45 years old. I have an uncle by marriage who was in Vietnam, he is introverted and keeps to himself..

The Veteran I have been helping another woman with in Caring for him. He is very highly intelligent.. He was diagnosed with P.T.S.D. D.I.D. (Dissociative Identity Disorder), as well as Bipolar with Psychotic features. He misses his medication quite a lot and when me or the other lady attempt to remind him to take his medication, he becomes highly agitated. My heart goes out to any one whom has been through a great deal of trauma, hurt and pain in their lives.

I will NEVER Understand "Why" those boys had to go fight a war our government knew we could never win. Then Our Boys came back with their heads hung low in shame, but not because they themselves were ashamed but because "we" made them feel ashamed.. Yet, we Vote for Draft Dodgers in the White House.. How Ironic is that!? Only in America will You see a Homeless Vet Sleep in A Cardboard Box while A Draft Dodger Slept In The White House!

It is simply shameless.. While my post is not meant to be a debate...I am simply expressing my own personal opinion and experiences.. I cannot begin to express neither Imagine what this Poor Boy has gone through. he has been a real Royal pain at times..and scared me and the other woman more than once..and me another time when I was here by myself with him... He started Yelling at me, (that behavior will not ever work with me), and we went toe to toe (lol). I was surprised that he just looked at me then walked over and sat down.. I plan to leave as soon as I learn of another position, when there is someone else who can fill the position, here..It does "Get" to me sometimes, and I wonder why I am still here at times. But I Think maybe, there is something to be learned here about Compassion...he told me Yesterday that I have been the only one to last in the position this long...(I thought to myself, I can surely see why! with this challenge lol).

A Couple weeks ago, he wanted me to watch a movie with him. It is called, "A Beautiful Mind" Based on the true Story of a Professor who had been diagnosed with Severe Paranoia with Psychosis and Hallucinations,, the man won the Nobel Prize, he was Brilliant in spite of his Challenging severe mental impairment, a great deal of his success he contributed to the loyalty and faithfulness that of his wife. While He experienced Severe psychosis, Delusions and paranoia.., he thought the C.I.A. And the F.B.I. And Foreign Enemy Agents were after him..

The Vet cried during the movie. No One can Possibly Understand what another Human being goes through unless they have either experienced similar and even then the end result is not always the same or Can they simply show Compassion.. I know at some time in this Vet's life he had wonderful potential., I have no idea if any extensive further treatment could possibly help him to live a more productive life or not. I do know I have "went" along with him when he has experienced a psychotic or paranoid episode or extreme high or extreme low and felt the police or some other official were "after" him or he thinks the telephones are tapped..it gets intense at times, let me say.

I believe I could write a Best seller with just these past few weeks' experiences alone. It is so heartbreaking at times, it makes me so angry and at times I feel so helpless, wanting to help, but knowing there is really nothing I can do.. So many of our Veterans; the Unsung Heroes...They've Done More Than Protected and Served Our Country...Those who were either Killed Or Missing In Action..The Prisoners of War and Those Who Died Instantly...They Did their Duty, What they Thought was Right...They are at Peace...But Those who are still here...they have been Forgotten...Swept underneath Society's "Neat and Clean" Carpet...They've Slipped Through The Cracks...It is they who are Paying The Ultimate Price most of All...The Price of a Productive Life to be Happy.. free of Mental anguish and Torment,They Deserve Dignity and Respect..They Fought in Battle for the Right to Liberty and Freedoms,, the Right to live Productive lives with Wives, Husbands, Children, Parents.... A Right we All have..Because of men like this Vet; men like my Late Father.. Men Like Your Fathers, Brothers, Sons, Daughters, Sisters...

My Friends, Freedom doesn't come Free...it Comes with a Price,, An Ultimate Price,, loss of Lives..But Let's not Forget those who have Suffered the Loss of the Quality of Life. They Earned that Honor and that Right...to be RESPECTED....to be Treated with Dignity....and when they are Hurting...Lend a Helping Hand....Isn't this what Jesus would do?

Let's SUPPORT Our Men and Women Over Seas...Let's Support The Forgotten Heroes, here at Home..

God Bless, Our Unsung Heroes...God Bless Our Veterans

God Bless, USM!!

Date: 9/21/2004 5:37:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 48250    Thank You for Your Comments KrisKris..There has been so much Stigma placed on These Illnesses, it's time that people see that people who have been diagnosed with these types of illnesses Deserve Respect and Dignity...So many of Our Veterans have been Diagnosed with these illnesses..and it is Truly A Shame that they have been neatly Swept under the carpet of Society...Without them, There wouldn't be America The Beautiful!.. Thank God For Our Veterans!!...Our UnSung Heroes....God Bless....T/C

Date: 9/21/2004 7:48:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    Yeah, it was pretty sad that Bill Clinton dodged the draft the way he did...he even wrote a letter saying he loathed the military and protested against America overseas. How ever did we allow a draft dodger like that into the white house?
