Sunday morning VENT! Who's business is it where I am?? I need some private time!

Good morning everyone in USM land! I have been in a sorry mood since yesterday afternoon and here's why.....

Like most people I have a cel phone. O.K. I have eight cel phones to keep up with but that's at work. But that's not the problem.

When my cel rings the first thing I hear is "where are you?" O.K. I know when I am at work and somebody at work is calling they have a reason for asking that. They either want me to go somewhere else or stop and pick up something. Either way, it's about work and I don't pay much attention to it.

I work Monday thru Friday. I have people in my business and up my nose five days a week. I look foward to the weekends when I can do anything I want or do nothing. Is that too much to ask for? Well, it's seems to be.

Yesterday, I was on the couch in the middle of the day taking a nap. I mean a good nap!! I hear my phone ringing and I let the machine get it. That was four rings and the closest phone was at the other end of the house so it wasn't loud. I could have been back to sleep in about a minute! (I really needed this nap!)

Less than a minute later my cel rings. Now that thing is loud and voice mail does not pick up until after the ninth ring so there's no ignoring it. I get up and answer the phone and my Mom says "where you at?" Now, it's obvious I was asleep when I answer so....DUH...I'm home! I am not even catching on to what she is saying to begin with and she has to slow down and repeat everything. Then when I can't help her find something at her house we hang up. I hit the couch again and within ten minutes she calls back. I am really trying to get into this nap and it's just not working! When she calls back it is to inform me that she is sending my brother to my house to get something.

So, I get off the couch and wait for my brother to show up. By that time there is no more nap time for me.

I know it sounds silly but there's more of course that I won't even go into. I wouldn't even answer the phone except for the fact that I still have one Grandmother living and she's older than dirt and could drop at any minute (Granny's words, not mine!!) and I want to be reached in case of an emergencey.

So, is it just me and am I getting old and grouchy or does it bother other people when they get a call and get asked where they are at?

Keeping it G-rated I can't say here what I want to say on the phone when somebody asks me that! One time I did say I was at my night job at the strip bar and I never did say where I was really at but they still didn't get the hint!

People don't call my house and ask where I am so why do they have to know where I am when calling my cel?

So......Does this happen to everybody else and does it bug you as much as me?

I'm done griping now! Well, for a few minutes anyway!!

Date: 9/19/2004 6:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 3901    i think the only reason your mom asked you where you were when you answered your cell was because you didnt answer your home phone when it rang so she assumed you weren't home. Sucks to have a nice nap interrupted tho doesn't it?
Date: 9/19/2004 7:15:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 4144    You would think that would be the only reason but that's the first thing she always says. not just her though. i'm talking about everybody. my husband always asks that when he calls me but he just does it because he knows it bugs me! he does it when he calls home too! but that's him being a butthead! i do the same thing to him. but it seems ieven if you don't say where you are when they ask and try to get to the point of the call they still want to know where you are at. it just seems nosey to me.
Date: 9/19/2004 8:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 53900    Well she is your mom...it isnt like some perfect stranger asking you that. I usually ask my sisters or friends where they are when I call their cell cause sometimes they may be in a movie theater or driving and I dont want to interrupt them. They also could be at home and if so then I would rather call on their home phone so I dont waste their minutes. I do not have a cell phone so I dont know if it would bug me or not but I dont really think it is to big of a deal personally. It is just like being asked what are you doign when someone calls you
Date: 9/19/2004 9:08:00 AM  From Authorid: 16671    I'm guilty of doing that as well, my daughters have cell phones and if I cant reach them at home, I try their cell phone and of course I ask where they are as if they WERE home, logic says they would answer their phone. I understand you need to keep the phone line handy in case of emergency, but I think for the nap I would have shut it off, left a voice message on it saying you were napping and if its a real emergency for that short of time to have someone come wake ya up. LOL
Date: 9/19/2004 9:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 18527    I turn my phone off when I need alone time!

Date: 9/19/2004 2:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    i am guilty of that as well LOL i call people and ask where they are only so i know i am not interupting them. if i need "me time" (which is often. LOL) i just turn my phone off and get the messages when i am ready to return the calls.
Date: 9/19/2004 3:09:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 4144    yes kiki 8 phones! and it's left up to me to deal with them. as you can probably tell i hate phones of all kinds! so, it looks like it's just me that it bugs when someone asks where i am!! i usually just say the same thing i say when i call someones home.....what's up? that way they can tell me where they are if they want me to know. i have a friend that hates to be asked where she is so much that when you call her cel and ask her she says i'm not home right now. if they keep asking she finally says it's really nobody's business where i am!! i love that! but with her she didn't want anybody to know where she was because he was married and not to her! (can we say "idiot?!) most of the time i don't want to say where i am because it will usually involve dropping whatever i have to do just to do something for somebody else. i know that sounds selfish but it gets old when it's an everyday thing. since i am pretty much alone at work i have people wanting me to drop what i'm doing at work to do something. good thing the boss don't hang around huh?!
Date: 9/19/2004 5:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 44960    My cell phone is real quite, in fact, I sometimes call it to make sure it still rings!! (((PrissieHuggzz)))
