Message of Support to ALL AUSTRALIANS following Jakarta Bombing

Hi USM,

Woke to sad news on the radio this morning...Jakarta was once again rocked by a terrorist attack, in particular the Australian Embassy situated there.

Responsibility for the attack has been claimed by the 'Jemaah Islamiah' group, who has since warned of more if Australia does not withdraw its Forces from Iraq. However, this claim is yet to be officially verified.

The Australia Embassy suffered severe external damage in the Bomb blast. There have been reports of at least nine people killed outside the Embassy in the explosion, though as yet there are no reports of injuries to any of the Embassy's occupants.

New Zealand Prime Minister, Helen Clark, spoke to Australian Prime Minister John Howard within hours of the bombing. She said she was appalled by such a "deliberate and cold-blooded attack". She had conveyed New Zealand's "deep concern" to Mr Howard.

---------------------------------------------------

I just want to extend a message of support, and of love, to and for all Australians on USM...my Aussie Cobbers 'across the ditch'.

The hand of terrorism has reached out and touched your great country...but I hope you also know that the hand of sympathy, friendship and support is also being extended to you at this time.

Be strong...know that you are not alone.

Peace, A/S

Date: 9/9/2004 6:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 62265    Ya I didn't know that happened either. I makes me both mad and sad that people have to do this stuff. It's morbid, I think. (((huggz))) and God bless,
Date: 9/9/2004 6:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 22440    Thanks mate. We are a bit isolated down here, but as the latest attack shows its getting too close to home for my liking! I just can't understand how anyone can be so fanatically minded, as to kill innocent people and "children" just to push a political or religious view. If these Terrorists were fair dinkum they would get Mr Bush and Mr Howard, and leave all the innocent bystanders alone! Or would I be considered a terrorist by BIG BROTHER for mentioning that last statement? Anyway thanks for the thoughts eh!

Date: 9/9/2004 7:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 34487    Another recent tragedy. It's sad that some people are so disturbed, ignorant and selfish, that they try to make a point by killing others. My heart goes out to all the victims and their families.
Date: 9/9/2004 7:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 45630    Thanks mate. The death toll before I left home was now ten. I am starting to question the validity of being over there. I was one of our biggest advocates of going overseas and fighting this war but I am starting to disagree with the way things are turning out. We can not win this war. Even if we defeat this terrorist group, another two more will pop up. I am so very sad for those people who die for no reason. I hang my head and grieve for them.
