Healthy Diet + Exercise

Hey, I thought I'd ask for some advice since I'm not happy with the way I look/feel. I know I'm not hugely overweight but I am a decent amount when judging it against my age and height. My moods seem to be all over the place too and I was thinking that it might help if I got into a healthier diet. I'm not talking "Quick I want to lose 50lbs in the next 3 days!" I'm just thinking that I wouldn't mind taking care of my body better and slowly getting rid of the weight in the process so I can have better self-esteem.

I was wondering if anyone had any meals for breakfast, lunch or dinner that were healthy but still taste good.

Also, what kind of excersizes could you recommend for burning fat and toning?

Thank you all!

Date: 9/4/2004 7:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 35720    I'd like to lose 50 pounds in 3 days.. even though that'd make me.... 80 pounds. lol.
Date: 9/4/2004 7:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 62838    Try yoga for beginners.... it REALLY will help you out. When you start out you don't have to be super fit or flexible, the exercises are designed for people so that you can progress at your own pace, and as you progress you can go further if you want to. The physical health benefits of yoga are amazing, but more importantly you'll feel happier and more comfortable with yourself, you really will. I started this 5 years ago and I've never looked back, it's the best thing I've ever tried. I had a really low self esteem and this helped me to feel happy again - nothing else did that for me except yoga. The best thing about it is you can buy home videos for $15 and you can do it in the privacy of your home at your own time. It's wonderful. *hugs* But whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy it and find something great - Kokoro

Date: 9/4/2004 8:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 11341    As far as eatting goes, you can eat anything you want. Its all in moderation, just stop before your full. Im still working on that part. Burn more calories than you eat and you will loose weight. Im still working on that part too. Good luck!
Date: 9/4/2004 8:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 62503    hmm well I started by eating in the morning a piece of toast with a thin layer of peanut butter and banana cut up on it 1 egg with cheese and like 2 strawberries. then for lunch i would have a salad with chicken on it or something along those lines. dinner i pretty much never gave myself a guide line for. I knew what was too much. Its truely portion control and a strong will. Snacks I would have apple with peanut butter on them, and those cheese and peanut butter crackers, or yogurt covered raisins. and everynight i did free weight exercises. I lost about a pound a day. But im getting ready to put some cardio work in with the freeweights
Date: 9/4/2004 9:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 62881    I have had a self esteem problem myself when it comes to the way I look. During the last 5 months I have really cut down on what I eat. Especially breads. I was 230lbs and am at 187 right now. I have gotten to the point that even if my eyes are bigger than my somach when I fill my plate, I don't eat all of it. I can't. I try to find things to do and have less time to be depressed and have the kitchen call out to me. I have a treadmill that I don't use often enough, so I wouldn't recommend spending a lot of money on equipment, but find something active that you enjoy doing and you will have a better chance of accomplishing your goals.

I hope you find the plan that is best for you. Good luck! Barbara-5

Date: 9/4/2004 9:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 42259    I don't have complete meals but if you're ever in need of a snack a glass of tomato juice and salt usually fills me up.Unless I'm in one of my moods where I NEED candy, lol!I know a few exercises..1/Lie on your back with your feet on the ground and slowly raise your behind up and then down again without letting it touch the ground.I usually do around 30.It's great for toning the butt, even if it does look silly.2/Stand (with your hand against a chair or something if you need balance) and raise your feet until you're standing on your toes, then lower again. These strengthen and tone the calves.I also do some pushups, situps, crunches, and pilates.Jumping rope is awesome because it burns fat and gets your arm and leg muscles moving.Plus it's really fun!Hope I helped
Date: 9/4/2004 11:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 62869    exercise, exercise, exercise,...i jog a mile a day (be consistent) and i don't drink reg. colas (only diet coke) and i especially don't eat after 7:00 in the evening..layoff white bread or biscuits and drink plenty of water....we ALL feel down at times, we're only human! keep yer chin up gal!
Date: 9/4/2004 2:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 53909    It takes a while to lose weight. I've only lost about 25 lbs this year and I've been slacking the diet and exersizing lately. Bad me! I kept away from a lot of junk food, fried stuff, greasy foods and hadn't ate that much starch. I've been eatting a lot of veggies, fruits, non fat yogart, lots of water!, very little diet sodas, baked chicken and soup. Make sure that you pay attention to how many calories, fat and carbs. Exersizing is a major thing. Try to work out at least 30 minutes a day and you can break up that 30 mins by doing something for 10 mins and the rest later on in the day.
Date: 9/4/2004 5:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 47983    It's really good to do cardio excercizes, for example running, speed walking, jogging, jump roping, cause these excercizes make you lose weight quickly and it's fun too. If you do these excercizes though and do lose some weight, it's best that you do weight training as well since skin will sag, thats what happens when you lose weight. Well, these are the only tips that I have for you, good luck and mantain your healthy diet =)
